Married at First Sight Australia 2023 has been inundated with glaringly obvious editing fails, franken-editing and cringeworthy mistakes.

Since the January 30 premiere, MAFS viewer quickly chose fan favourites and villains of the season, and there’s no denying that the editing has a hand in who we love to hate.

NGL, it’s honestly wild that producers still have to frankenbite some parts of the audio because it seems the pre and post-filming scandals have proven that the 2023 participants are a mess no matter what.

But if you’re questioning which moments have had the editors’ not-so-subtle touch, we’ve recapped all of the editing fails from Married at First Sight Australia 2023.

2022 groom Daniel Holmes points out sneaky AF editing trick on Married at First Sight

Because the villain groom just won’t quit, 2022’s Daniel Holmes has pointed out a sneaky editing trick used by producers to fuel their spicy storylines.

Sharing a clip of Bronte Schofield discussing her relationship with Harrison Boon to Instagram, the 31-year-old explained that producers “stitch” phrases together.

“I guess for me when I said I wanted to leave, it was because I was scared,” Bronte said in the clip. However, the tone and volume of her voice changed when she said, “I was scared”.

MAFS do this thing where they don’t show you talking and just play audio. They stitch words together you’ve said in other conversations,” Daniel revealed.

“Trust me when I say you should not believe a single thing you see on this show in terms of who you think the villains and heroes are.”

The REAL timeline for the Married at First Sight Commitment Ceremonies is revealed

During the February 26 episode of Married at First Sight, fans were yet again privy to a doozy Commitment Ceremony.

However, some Reddit users noticed a very interesting detail that unravelled what we’ve been led to believe about the couch sessions.

“This was Rupert [Bugden] getting ready for last week’s Commitment Ceremony. Note the time,” they penned.

The scene showed the intruder getting ready for the ceremony, while in the background a clock showed 9:43 am!

Yep, as in THE MORNING. Huh? We totally thought this was filmed in the evening!

As previously reported by So Dramatic!, 2021 bride Beck Zemek once dished that Commitment Ceremony begins filming at midday, so no wonder Rupert was getting himself so dapper, so early!

Sandy Jawanda’s lipstick exposes MASSIVE editing fail

During the explosive March 1 Dinner Party, fans were gobsmacked at how sloppy the show’s editing was.

Watching on as Sandy Jawanda faced off against her slimy husband Dan Hunjas, one tiny detail confirmed producers rearrange moments to fit their storyline.

Throughout the dinner, the TV bride was seen with perfectly applied plum-coloured lipstick.

However, Sandy was seen seconds later with her lipstick smudged across her cheek.

The blemish soon disappeared in a subsequent shot, before disappearing later in the scene.

“Has anyone else noticed the terrible editing on MAFS… Sandy has a small line of lipstick on her cheek in one shot and the next it’s gone… then it’s back… then it’s gone,” one fan wrote on Twitter. Yep, we noticed, and it’s a doozy!

Dan Hunjas kept twitching during the Dinner Party — or did he?

During the same Dinner Party, fans noticed Dan twitching with agitation multiple times throughout the episode.

However, people quickly cottoned on that the repetitive twitch wasn’t the father-of-one’s doing — it all came down to the editing!

Yep, it seems producers recycled Dan’s reaction, using it twice in two separate scenes.

Tayla Winter and Hugo Armstrong are given a bizarre filter

During the February 27 episode, fans thought their eyes were playing tricks on them as they noticed a bizarre colour switch during scenes of Tayla Winter and Hugo Armstrong.

In one clip, the couple seemed to look normal, however, a few seconds later their hair had changed colours.

It appears they had a greyish filter applied to them which made them both appear like they had changed their hair colour.

“What in the editing fail over-filtered shit is this???” one fan questioned.

And yeah, we have no idea…

Does Janelle Han have a clone?

If there’s anything MAFS has proven to us, it’s that these episodes need a thorough edit before being released for public consumption.

This was particularly evident during the February 26 Commitment Ceremony while Janelle Han and Adam Seed were on the couch.

While the dirty cheater (read: Adam) was getting grilled by the experts, the camera cut to Harrison smirking about the whole situation. Or was he?

It appears the shot was pulled from another scene because in the corner of the screen, Janelle can be seen sitting right next to him!

Tsk, tsk…

Harrison Boon’s secret microphone

As if Harrison wasn’t dodgy enough, fans noticed the father-of-one chatting to producers via a secret microphone during the February 22 dinner party.

While the cast was up in arms over the cheating scandal at hand, Harrison was seen pulling his shirt collar towards his mouth as he sat beside Jesse Burford .

“Dis [Harrison] just talk into a mouthpiece?” one viewer penned on TikTok alongside a clip of the moment.

Another fan then tagged 2022 bride Domenica Calarco in the post, asking if contestants have microphones.

“Yeah he probably just needed to go to the bathroom,” Domenica replied. “That’s a bad editing mistake there.”

Girl, you don’t need to tell us!

Tayla Winter’s disappearing and reappearing dessert

The February 21 episode of MAFS got heated AF as intruder Tayla Winter argued with her new hubby Hugo Armstrong over her expectations of a partner.

It all went down over dinner while on their honeymoon, however, fans noticed the timeline wasn’t adding up as her meal kept disappearing and reappearing.

At one stage, the half-eaten meal was nowhere to be seen, as if the shot had been taken from another point during the dinner.

Then, her dessert was back in front of Tayla, appearing untouched. We’re gonna need some time stamps on this convo, stat!

A Married at First Sight wedding guest was clocked with an earpiece

During the February 20 episode, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the guest walking Tayla down the aisle was wearing an earpiece in his left ear.

Excusé moi?

While it was relatively incognito, the device became very obvious when he turned his head towards Tayla as they approached her new husband.

As we all know, reality stars sometimes wear earpieces to receive instructions from producers.

Obviously, this just adds to the big fat question on every MAFS fan’s mind — how scripted IS this sh*tshow?

Married at First Sight‘s Claire Nomarhas changing fingernails

This wasn’t the only editing fail clocked during the February 20 episode.

Before the weddings, Claire Nomarhas battled with telling Jesse that she’d cheated on him with Adam.

In the first scene, where Claire is seen waking up, each of her nails is painted a different colour.

However, when it cuts to the bride discussing her infidelity with Sandy Jawanda, her nails are all painted pink.

As some fans pointed out online, it’s possible the first scene was filmed the week before because “she had the coloured nails last week”.

Other fans also noticed that this is a recurring fail throughout the season and come on, MAFS editors, keep up!

MAFS alum Selina Chhaur noticed some “magical editing”, and OMG, how did we miss this?!

Married at First Sight Australia 2022’s Selina Chhaur noticed that a conversation between 2023’s Jesse and Claire had some major franken-editing.

Speaking to Yahoo! Lifestyle, the former TV bride explained that she sees MAFS with a “different lens” after appearing on the show.

“I feel like I’ve got ears for like, ‘Oh they just snipped that part there, that feels like a copy and paste’,” she explained.

During the January 31 episode, Claire attempted to ask Jesse about his interests, but he appeared to repeatedly shut her down.

However, Selina suspected that the audio of Jesse’s responses was “copied and pasted” in post-production.

“She asked, ‘Do you want to whistle your favourite song?’ and he was like, ‘Yeah, no’,” Selina said.

“And then she asked another question and that ‘Yeah, no’ was the exact same. So they just copied and pasted him saying the same thing.”

What else of Jesse’s dodginess is really just a bad edit? Eh, probs not a lot

Married at First Sight‘s lighting is whack and it’s kind of hilarious

During the premiere episode, MAFS fans may have been too distracted by the absolute trainwreck that was Harrison and Bronte’s wedding day to realise the whole thing was a YUGE editing fail.

However, there were some eagle-eyed viewers who noticed that their “big day” would also have been a LONG day.

Bronte’s bridesmaids looked like they had swapped dresses halfway through the ceremony due to the minimal colour correction.

While they started the day in sea spray-coloured matching Bec + Bridge dresses, it appeared as though they changed into blue-toned grey outfits.

But Daily Mail Australia confirmed with production that they never got changed, which would imply that the shiny dress’ colours were impacted by the time of day — and some laziness on the editors’ behalf.
