The Block Australia 2022‘s Scotty Cam has called for a drastic rule change for the upcoming 2023 season, but frustrated fans may not be satisfied with his big plans.

Speaking with co-host Shelley Craft on the October 23 episode of the show’s official podcast, the celebrity tradie suggested the show needs a major budget overhaul.

ICYMI: Ankur Dogra and Sharon Johal have been hammered for their major overspending (putting them up to $80,000 in the red), which prompted Scotty to take over their finances for the latter part of the 2022 season.

So it’s no surprise that the 59-year-old carpenter hopes to “change the rules” on The Block in 2023 because “teams just kept spending”.

“I am going to have a meeting about this, I have already discussed it with some people, and we are going to have a meeting,” Scotty said.

“I don’t know what we are going to do. We are going to make some changes.”

Scotty Cam Urges Future The Block 2023 Contestants to Have More Trade Skills

Scotty also suggested that future contestants should train themselves in some basic trade skills before appearing on The Block.

While Blockheads Jenny Heath and Dylan Adams are both professional tradies, Ankur and Sharon had no prior experience.

“One thing I think for folks listening at home who want to do The Block is learn how to plaster,” Scotty said.

He continued: “I am not suggesting, for example, that Ankur and Sharon could plaster, but they could learn how to hang sheets, and that is very feasible and very easy to do.”

It appears that one of his suggested rule changes has already been put in place for 2023. The casting call noted that at least one of the applicants must be a tradesperson.

Having an equal playing field might lessen fans’ complaints that The Block is “unfair” or “biased”.

But while the veteran host is looking to change certain rules, viewers were hoping for a major overhaul of the current judges (with some even wanting Scotty to hang up his tool belt as well).
