Fans have stopped tuning into The Block 2022, with many revealing their recent dislike for the reno series has a lot to do with its longtime host, Scott Cam.
For years, The Block has drawn in viewers with its controversial characters and awe-inspiring builds. However, the 18th season has seen more drama than renovating occur, and fans are p*ssed.
While some have admitted to letting the constant “cheating” scandals slide, The Block die-hards reckon Scotty’s role as gossipmonger is the final straw.
Taking to social media following the October 19 episode of the show, one fan said the host’s “constant gossiping” is “so unprofessional”.
Another voiced how “disappointed” she was that Scotty has continued to stir the pot among the cast.
“I’m disappointed with how Scotty has intentionally spread negative comments from house to house as he walks around,” she penned.
“It has stirred things up when not needed. It appears more so this season than others.”
One Facebook user called the latest instalment of The Block “a travesty”, condemning the 59-year-old and his co-host Shelley Craft for “subscribing to the unpleasantness”.
“It has just become another unwatchable so-called reality show,” they wrote. “I now only watch the Sunday reveals.”
The sentiment rang out in comment sections, with many viewers stating they rarely tune in, despite having “never missed an episode” in previous years.
The Block‘s downfall comes after an on-set source told So Dramatic! that the Channel Nine mainstay was instrumental in drumming up drama at the Gisbourne South site.
Scott Cam Was Reportedly a “Puppet” for The Block 2022 Producers
As reported in episode 213 of the So Dramatic! podcast, Scott was “feared among the contestants”.
“He would constantly make snarky remarks to stir up drama for the producers,” an insider recalled.
“He would swear at contestants and ambush them with untrue accusations to suit storylines that producers had planned.”
Apparently, Scott “would run with that narrative even if he knew it wasn’t true”, with sources dubbing him the producers’ “puppet”. Yikes.
It’s not just the host’s medalling that has folks switching the channel, though.
The “blatant favouritism” of Tom Calleja and Sarah-Jane and Sharon Johal‘s “constant whinging” are also behind fans’ decision to say buh-bye to The Block.
