There’s plenty to love about the Christmas and New Year holidays, but it makes going back to the daily grind of work in 2023 all the more brutal. So to lessen the pain, we’ve dug up the most iconic quotes from reality TV that perfectly sum up how we feel about returning to work in 2023.

These memorable lines perfectly describe our exact mood RN and we’re sure to be quoting them in the break room (or over a drawn-out Zoom call).

To aid us all in our ‘back to the daily grind’ woes, we’re looking back at some of most iconic quotes of reality TV history. Source: Foxtel.

America’s Next Top Model

The quote: “I just don’t think this is that great for me. I don’t want to do it. Like, I can’t take the pressure of it.”

The context: During America’s Next Top Model in 2004, an unnamed “cycle three” contestant decided the often brutal competition just wasn’t for her. Immediately after informing Tyra BanksJay Manuel and J. Alexander, she turned around (while Tyra was mid-sentence) and walked away.

Why we love it: How can you not? This quote is sure to play on loop in your head every time you have to talk in a meeting, get assigned a new project or literally just have to go to work every day. Like, we can’t take the pressure off it!

Love Island Australia

The quote: “You know what’s funny, bro? Paper comes from trees but it looks nothing like a tree.”

The context: Love Island Australia 2022’s biggest “bromance” (CRINGE) Callum Hole and Mitch Eliot had a D&M in the pool about cheating with an analogy about scrunching up a piece of paper.

Why we love it: Look, the Love Island franchise has no shortage of iconic AF quotes but 2022 finalist Callum really pumped out the one-liners like nobody else. If ‘shower thoughts’ were a person, it would be him.

We got to admit, we’ve definitely made a long AF meeting go a little bit faster but coming up with bizarre observations just like this one and we’re pretty sure you have too.

On a side note, it’s also giving Kris and Kendall Jenner‘s; “money doesn’t grow on trees,” “yes it does, it’s paper”. LOVE that.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians

The quote: “Kim, there are people dying.”

The context: Do you even need us to tell you!? Kim Kardashian lost her diamond earring while snorkelling and Kourtney Kardashian was having none of it.

Why we love it: We repeat this to ourselves every time we get stressed over a deadline.

BTW, “you’re doing amazing, sweetie” does get an honourable mention… But, hot take: It’s slightly overdone now. There are so many other classic Kardashian lines just waiting to be appreciated.

The Bachelor Australia

The quote: “I’m an astrophysicist”… “I’m a Gemini.”

The context: During her first reality TV appearance on The Bachelor Australia, Abbie Chatfield introduced herself to Bachie Matt Agnew. When he told her that he worked as an astrophysicist, some hilariously devious editing made it appear like she thought that was a star sign.

Why we love it: Okay, so we’ll admit it. There are not a lot of times where you’d say this full quote in the workplace, despite it being totally iconic. Although, we’d like to formally acknowledge that Mercury will retrograde when we all return to work and we’re not here for it.

But Abbie told ABC’s Reputation Rehab that the quote was edited and she had first asked him what his star sign was. And we’re totally here for vetting co-workers but asking them about astrology in 2023!

Celebrity Big Brother UK

The quote: “Oh my god, open that f*cking door right now. Nah, f*ck this. I’m out of here. Get that fire exit door, I’m off.”

The context: The narrator only makes this iconic Gemma Collins quote even better, explaining: “Gemma thinks she’s seen a ghost.”

Why we love it: Any retail worker will be ready and willing to quote this (complete with the Essex accent) in its entirety anytime a customer walks in one minute before closing.

Project Runway

The quote: “Make it work.”

The context: Tim Gunn deserves more praise for being a reality TV icon, having coined this as his signature catchphrase.

Why we love it: While we would probably cry if somebody actually said this to us, it would be so satisfying to tell an annoying team member “make it work” (or Heidi Klum‘s, “I’m sorry, you’re out”).

Dance Moms

The quote: “You’re entitled to your wrong opinion, that’s fine.”

The context: Dance Moms wouldn’t be the same without Dr Holly Frazier‘s incredible reads. This particular quote comes from an argument with Jill Vertes about private dance rehearsals for their kids.

Holly said, “I’m entitled to my opinion”, but Jill questioned why she wasn’t “entitled” to have an opinion too. Without missing a beat, Holly came back with this incredible line.

Why we love it: This isn’t just a one-time quote. It’s a life motto.

Real Housewives of Melbourne

The quote(s) Andrea Moss: “I don’t particularly want to talk to you.”

Gina Liano: “That’s good. That really suits me.”

Andrea: “I actually get offended even looking at you.”

Gina: “Well, don’t look, darling.”

The context: During a Real Housewives of Melbourne dinner party, Andrea Moss rekindled her feud with Gina Liano (re)addressed her feud with Andrea after the barrister walked in stilettos on her “$40,000 synthetic grass tennis court”.

If that isn’t the most Real Housewives issue ever, we don’t know what is!

A special mention has to go to Gina telling Andrea (during a different argument) at the 2014 reunion: “You’re an insignificant arse hair.”

Why we love it: Just picture being able to say any of this to the person you hate at work *chef’s kiss*.
