Married at First Sight Australia 2023 fans were left in shock yet again after discovering Claire Nomarhas and Adam Seed used Jesse Burford‘s insecurities against him by gaslighting him around his cheating allegations.
During the February 20 episode, the 31-year-old kindergarten assistant revealed that she DID kiss Adam, despite telling her TV husband that he was “out of line” for having suspicions that she was cheating.
“I didn’t mean to hurt anyone, I feel so bad… I feel really awful for hurting Janelle [Han] and for hurting Jesse. And I wouldn’t want to leave being a hypocrite and a liar,” Claire said in an interview-to-camera.
After throwing up from nerves, Claire pulled Jesse aside and revealed the truth.
“Ahhh that is classic! I knew it. I just knew something was so suss. Adam, bro, what a dog. I cannot wait to see that c**t. What a snake,” Jesse said.
He added: I thought you were bringing me out here to break up with me … I couldn’t have imagined anything worse than that — and then you said something worse than that.”

The revelation shocked MAFS viewers as Claire had been one of the most prominent voices to speak out against (fellow gaslighter) Harrison Boon, who got a girl’s number on a night out.
But while Claire recognised that she had been a “hypocrite and a liar” for cheating, fans weren’t just furious about the kiss itself.
Jesse – who had previously admitted that he had been in a toxic relationship where he’d been kept a secret for two years – had been forced to apologise for his jealousy-driven behaviour and was repeatedly told that he was in the wrong.
Gaslighting has been rife throughout Married at First Sight 2023 and fans were horrified that the “emotionally abusive” behaviour was so widespread among the cast.
Viewers took to Twitter to share that it was equally important to call out Claire’s manipulation of Jesse’s insecurities. They pointed out that it was no different to the numerous male contestants guilty of gaslighting their partners, even if she was apologetic.
Many admitted that they hadn’t liked Jesse in early episodes. But they reminded others that he was still a victim despite his own mistakes in the relationship.

Claire revealed to Sandy Jawanda that Adam had been messaging her about the incident, putting pressure on her not to speak out.
“How’s that going to make her feel? Because she’s thinking, ‘of course, I can’t tell anyone. Because if I say something, he’s gonna deny it’,” Sandy said, telling Claire to “stop protecting Adam”.
While it definitely takes two to tango, some fans felt that Adam – who has admitted to cheating in the past – put Claire between a rock and a hard place.
Fans also called out Adam for lying to his TV wife Janelle, who had unquestioningly trusted him when he denied Jesse’s allegations.
