Married at First Sight Australia 2023‘s Caitlin McConville chose to leave the experiment after enduring her TV husband Shannon Adams‘ “disrespectful” and “emotionally abusive” behaviour.

During the February 19 episode, John Aiken offered two participants – Caitlin and Josh White – the opportunity to leave after having significant issues with their respective partners.

Caitlin explained Shannon’s behaviour and disingenuous apology all felt a little too familiar, having previously experienced unhealthy relationships.

“We can’t keep moving forward on the premise of ‘I’ll own it’, but [with] no action of actually doing better. It’s an apology that is followed by anger and aggression, and defensiveness — not an apology that is actioned.

“I deserve to be respected,” she continued. “I deserve to feel wanted, I deserve to be treated like a human being. You don’t deserve me.”

Married at First Sight fans praised Caitlin for recognising and openly speaking about her self-worth.

Some fans called for MAFS producers to find Caitlin a new hubby, while others questioned how the “experts” ever paired her with Shannon in the first place.

Caitlin continued at the Commitment Ceremony: “But this isn’t what I wanted, and if I’m being honest if I could do it all over again with someone else I would.

“I deserve that chance but this man does not deserve me. So I will be leaving.”
