Married at First Sight Australia 2022’s Olivia Frazer has revealed some of the sneaky editing tricks producers use, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for these!

Despite being portrayed as the ultimate villain in her series, Olivia admitted that things weren’t exactly as they seemed, thanks to some subtle manipulation from the show’s editors.

From using scenes out of context to literally putting words in people’s mouths, Olivia spilled the beans on all the BTS editing tricks during parts one and two of her AFTERMAFS episodes of the So Dramatic! podcast.

Married at First Sight’s Olivia Frazer unveils the ‘psychological tricks’ producers use to make people look like villains

According to Olivia, producers employ “psychological tricks” to make people seem unlikeable. And for her, that meant making her seem like she didn’t like dogs.

“People don’t typically like people that don’t like dogs,” the former TV bride explained.

“[Producers showed a moment when] Jackson [Lonie’s] dogs were getting their muddy paws on my white trousers. So I brushed them off because I didn’t want [dirty] trousers.

“Another time, one of them walked onto my lap when I had a glass of wine. Producers included all of these clunky moments of me with the dogs to make me look like I hate dogs,” she said.

MAFS‘ Olivia Frazer reveals how producers put words in people’s mouths

One of the biggest moments during the OnlyFans model’s season was when she admitted she had “no empathy” during a Commitment Ceremony.

However, the controversial bride revealed that the experts gave her a lecture that effectively “wouldn’t end” until she admitted she “had no empathy”.

“I was just rolling over [and giving producers what they wanted],” she told host Megan Pustetto.

Another trick producers used was making the contestants repeat their questions back to them so they had audio content to use whenever they liked.

“For example, they asked: ‘What are you and Jackson fighting about today?’ and I’d say, ‘Jackson and I are fighting about absolutely nothing today’.

“Then, they’d take ‘Jackson and I are fighting’ and put it into their little vault of phrases that they can use in your voice.”

And who said reality TV was real?

She added: “There’s nothing you can do [about your edit]. And unfortunately, audiences think there’s no such thing as a bad edit… but there’s a lot you don’t know unless you’ve lived it.”

Olivia explains how scenes are edited out of context on Married at First Sight

Olivia also warned viewers not to believe everything they see because some scenes are taken completely out of context.

“In my season, they took conversations Jackson and I had on our honeymoon about my dad and placed them behind scenes of our wedding a week before,” she recalled. It sounds like they’re editing a fictional movie!

Storylines and scandals are saved by producers for a ‘rainy day’

In addition, storylines are also saved for a rainy day.

You may remember the HUGE OnlyFans scandal between Olivia and Domenica Calarco.

However, Olivia told So Dramatic! that she’d received screenshots of Domenica’s OnlyFans posts weeks prior to the scandal that was shown on screen.

“Producers put that in their back pocket for a slow story week and then brought it out weeks later,” she revealed. And we’re getting flashbacks to Eden Harper revealing Sara Mesa‘s cheating scandal!

MAFS producers control what’s written in the Final Vows speeches

Olivia also spilled that producers control what’s written in the Final Vows speeches.

Apparently, producers wanted Jackson to have a dig at Olivia in his speech, but he wasn’t on board with that.

However, when Final Vows came around, they added a dig towards Olivia in his cue cards.

“He stopped reading his vows halfway through and was like, ‘I didn’t write this, this isn’t what I want to say.’

“But producers told him to keep going,” she recalled.

“As soon as we finished filming, Jackson said, ‘Producers snuck that in there’.” And we have NO words.

MAFS’ Olivia explains how to tell whether someone’s a villain or just the victim of a bad edit

Olivia then explained how to tell whether someone’s a villain or merely the victim of a bad edit.

“People should pay attention to what the rest of the cast says,” she explained. “Lots of my co-stars did interviews saying I was a lovely person.

“I’m still good friends with a lot of my castmates, whereas Domenica and Ella [Ding] ran off on their own,” she said.

She then gave the example of 2023 star Alyssa Barmonde, whose cast mates rallied behind her despite her bad edit.

“The social experiment starts when the show airs… You’ve got to see if people stick together, who’s problematic and who minds their own business a bit more. You’ve got to pay close attention to the after-show.”
