After a nail-biting auction, Omar Slaimankhel and Osman “Oz” Malik from House Five have been crowned the winners of The Block 2022.

The hit renovation show’s 18th season came to a dramatic close on November 6 with the Western Sydney besties taking home $1,586,666.66, plus an extra $100,000 in prize money.

With the homes’ reserve prices equally sitting at $4,080,000, the 2022 teams were fearful their properties wouldn’t sell on auction day. And sadly, some didn’t.

However, the bidders came in hot and ready to drop a pretty penny on Omar and Oz’s 10-acre Gisborne ranch, which boasts five bedrooms, three bathrooms and “the most prized kitchen on The Block.

The lucky individual was serial buyer Danny Wallis, an IT entrepreneur who has previously purchased eight of The Block properties, totalling almost $30 million.

In a record-breaking sale, House Five was sold to the tune of $5,666,666.66.

Taking home over $793K each (excluding prize money), the duo couldn’t believe the result.

“We’re absolutely stoked that we took out the win this year,” Oz said. “We had a plan and stuck to it.”

Meanwhile, Omar admitted the victory “took a while to sink in”.

“But it felt amazing to get a win after the hard work we put in,” he confessed.

During the finale, Oz also revealed he and his wife, Jasmine, are expecting their fourth child!

What Did the Other The Block 2022 Houses Sell for?

The auction (which took place on November 5 and aired the following day) saw just one other team turn a profit when their home went under the hammer.

In second place was Tom Calleja and Sarah-Jane Wilson, whose made-over house was also bought by Danny for $4,100,000.99.

They walked away with just $20,000.99 profit.

Unfortunately, the high reserve prices made selling the remaining houses difficult.

Despite some bids, Rachel and Ryan Carr (House Two), Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra (House Three) and Dylan Adams and Jenny Heath (House Four) failed to hit the reserve price at auction and were passed in.

Rachel and Ryan’s Home Was Sold Post-Auction

Even though their home being passed in meant they were ineligible for The Block 2022 win, Rachel and Ryan managed to sell post-auction after some negotiation.

House Two eventually went to Danny (yes, another buy!) for $4,249,999.85, which gave them a profit of $169,000.85.

At the time of writing, Sharon and Ankur’s build and Dylan and Jenny’s home were yet to sell.

Prior to auction day, fans were convinced Tom and Sarah-Jane would be The Block 2022 winners, mainly due to suspected “favouritism” during the experience.

What Was the Auction Order for The Block 2022?

The finale episode kicked off with Tom and Sarah-Jane using their coveted superpower — deciding the auction order.

As the team with the highest number of points across the season, the couple was handed the make-or-break decision.

As we’ve seen in past seasons, the order in which the houses go under the hammer can play a huge role in who wins the show altogether.

As such, Tom and Sarah-Jane wielded their power strategically to take care of themselves first and foremost.

They decided on:

FIRST: Omar and Oz

SECOND: Tom and Sarah-Jane

THIRD: Rachel and Ryan

FOURTH: Sharon and Ankur

FIFTH: Dylan and Jenny

As the auctions revealed, however, the tough decision could never have foreseen the bittersweet end result.

After weeks of cheating scandals and “dodgy” antics, it’s safe to say some fans will be thrilled to see the back of The Block 2022. But with host Scott Cam‘s bid to make some changes, we’re sure everyone will be on the couch for the 2023 season, regardless!

Congrats Omar and Oz!
