Married at First Sight Australia 2024‘s Sara Mesa has revealed why she pulled away from Tim Calwell on the show whilst exposing his red flags.

Despite initially seeming like a match made in Spanish-speaking heaven, it quickly became clear that Tim and Sara were NOT the ones for each other. From fights to cheating scandals, the show gave us PLENTY of evidence as to why the pair would never work out IRL.

However, during part one of her tell-all on the So Dramatic! podcast, Sara revealed why she really wasn’t into Tim and what gave her the ick.

“I think I had higher hopes for the person I was going to get matched with,” Sara admitted to host Megan Pustetto. “Not that Tim wasn’t an amazing guy; I just think we weren’t compatible.”

The fiery bride explained that she’d asked to be married to someone who would “match her energy.”

“I need quite a big personality because I am a big personality,” she said.

However, she struggled when she realised she wasn’t with someone who was on the same wavelength as her.

“It was really difficult for me because I’m quite picky,” she confessed.

The nutritionist said she also “pulled away” from Tim because he would talk about surface-level stuff.

“Lots of the conversations we were having at the airport [during our honeymoon] felt a little bit forced. It wasn’t flowing,” she recalled.

“It seemed surface-level to me. It didn’t seem like we were getting to know each other on a personal level. So I kinda disconnected from that.”

She then revealed that she got the ick after a few big blowups during their honeymoon, including Tim repeatedly telling her to “relax” and being too touchy-feely too soon (more on that here).

Married at First Sight‘s Sara exposes Tim’s ‘red flags’

Despite being a “really good guy”, the 29-year-old noticed a few red flags in her TV hubby.

“One of the big red flags was that he was friends with Jack [Dunkley]. That stressed me out,” Sara confessed.

And after offering his wife up to the other grooms and telling Jonathan McCullough to “put a muzzle” on Lauren Dunn, we can see why!

“I asked Tim: ‘Do you not see that what Jack’s saying and doing is wrong?'” she said.

According to Sara, Tim defended Jack after his cooked Couple Swap comment and sided with him during his many controversies.

However, things went from bad to worse when she caught Tim secretly texting Jack after it came out that he’d been touching Sara inappropriately.

“After the whole Jack kissing me on the neck and touching me on the bum thing, I heard on some podcasts that Jack spoke to Tim after he stood up for me at the retreat, and they made up,” she recalled.

“That was shocking to me. And that was one of the reasons I didn’t feel like Tim ever had my back.”

She then claimed that out of all the boys, Tim and Jack were the closest. And those “toxic boys’ club” rumours are seeming truer by the day!

MAFS‘ Sara reveals the real reason she didn’t participate in the Phone Swap challenge with Tim

Sara famously decided not to participate in the Phone Swap challenge, causing Tim to question whether she had something to hide.

However, Sara revealed that she didn’t give her phone to Tim because she’d “only known the guy for two weeks”.

“A phone is a very private thing,” she stressed. “I just had the most tumultuous honeymoon. I was sitting there texting my friends and mum, saying: ‘I need to leave. I hate this dude’.

“I say the most rogue sh*t to my friends and my mom when I’m venting. Tim and I were in a good place. And if he read these messages, he’d have been really upset.” Makes perfect sense to us!
