Turns out that Married at First Sight Australia 2024‘s Sara Mesa has a very good reason for refusing to participate in the show’s phone swap task.

ICYMI: The newlyweds were tasked with several challenges during Confessions Week. One task included relinquishing their phone to their partner so they could look through it as part of a trust exercise.

Sarah refused to give up her device to her husband, Tim Calwell. She’s since been accused of “hiding something” for doing so.

However, an insider has since explained that the real reason Sara didn’t partake in the exercise couldn’t be aired as it would “expose” producers.

“Sara had nothing to hide, but she knew the second she handed her iPhone over the producers would find a way to bring anything they saw on there onto the show as a storyline,” they told Yahoo! Lifestyle.

“This includes messages to her mum and family about a private incident unrelated to filming and entries in her notepad that she uses as a diary.

“She felt like the whole thing was just a gross invasion of privacy disguised as a constructive task for production to obtain private information.”

Married at First Sight‘s Tim Calwell reportedly ‘never’ wanted to see Sara Mesa’s phone

The source also claimed that Tim “never even wanted to see the phone”.

However, “producers fed him the lines about having trust issues because he’d previously been cheated on so they could build a story arc from Sara’s refusal”. And we’d honestly expect nothing less!

Contestants accuse MAFS producers of ‘double standards’

Meanwhile, another MAFS insider said some of the participants are p*ssed off by the “double standards” of Sara being villainised for refusing to do a task while Timothy Smith was applauded for skipping out on the photo-ranking challenge.

At the time, the 51-year-old criticised the controversial task that sees participants rank the brides and grooms based on physical attractiveness.

“It’s bullsh*t,” Timothy said. “I think it’s an unfair, unrealistic task. I don’t want to do it.”
