Married at First Sight Australia 2024‘s Sara Mesa has revealed what really went down during her explosive honeymoon with Tim Calwell, and it turns out things weren’t as they seemed.
ICYMI: During their on-screen trip to Fiji, the pair shared a round of tequila shots at dinner one night. Sara pulled a face after her shot, like many of us do, and Tim began to say, “You need to, um…”.
After some prodding from his TV wife, he admitted that he was about to tell Sara to “relax”, resulting in a blow-up of epic proportions, which led to them spending some time apart.
During part one of her tell-all interview on the So Dramatic! podcast, Sara revealed that this fight was actually taken out of context.
“The timeline of the honeymoon was completely wrong. They made it look like we spent the day apart because he told me to relax,” Sara told host Megan Pustetto. “But I actually asked to have the day apart from Tim because he was being too affectionate.” Interesting…

The nutritionist explained that she had a “huge chat” with Tim off-camera about the amount of affection she was receiving from him.
“I said to him: ‘I need you to take a step back. You keep touching me and grabbing my hand, and I’m not feeling comfortable. It’s too much for me right now,” she explained.
Tim then told her he understood and he was on the same page. However, when they got back to their hotel, things suddenly changed.
“He got into bed and his undies and [tried] to hug me. And I was like: ‘Tim, you’re not understanding me’. And I flipped,” the bride recalled.
“I called Eden [Harper], and I was bawling to her on the phone. I told her I didn’t know what to do because I kept telling him: ‘You’re being too affectionate’, but he wasn’t listening.”
Sara then decided she needed a day apart from Tim, which is why they spent some time alone during their honeymoon.

After spending time apart, the couple shared the infamous dinner where the “relax” comment went down. However, Sara spilled the real reason she got mad during that moment.
“I felt like things were unresolved, so when we got to that dinner, I was already on edge,” Sara said. “I was like: ‘I don’t understand why we can’t talk about this’. But he wanted to joke around and pretend like it never happened. That’s when he said to me, ‘Just relax’.”
However, Sara revealed that this comment hit her hard because Tim made the same comment before off-camera.
“The night before, off-camera, I’d said to him: ‘Please don’t ever tell me to relax. Don’t ever tell a woman to relax. It’ll do the complete opposite of what you want.
“That’s why when he did it at the dinner, I knew he was doing it to get a reaction out of me on-camera… The reason I got pissed off is because I knew he was doing it to piss me off.”
She then hit back at her edit during the honeymoon, stating: “If you’re not understanding something, there’s always more to the story.” And it all makes sense now!
