Domenica Calarco is facing intense backlash after criticising Married at First Sight Australia 2023‘s Bronte Schofield‘s voice during a recent episode of her podcast, Sit With Us.
The former TV bride and her co-star-slash-co-host Ella Ding sent the MAFS community into a tizzy after recently setting live their controversial two-part episode with this season’s most hated groom, Harrison Boon.
While fans were shook that the self-proclaimed feminists were giving the “manipulative” star a platform, many were also not impressed with Domenica’s mockery of Harrison’s TV wife’s voice — particularly given Domenica’s own experience on the show.
ICYMI: Domenica and her on-screen rival Olivia Frazer went head-to-head at the 2022 Couples’ Retreat when the latter criticised Domenica’s “loud” voice.
Now, the Italian bride’s fans are pointing out her hypocrisy over her commentary regarding Bronte.
What did Domenica Calarco say about Married at First Sight‘s Bronte Schofield’s voice?
In the Sit With Us episode, the hosts played a clip of Bronte’s leaked voice memo, in which he said she was “actually triggered” by his TV bae’s voice.
“I can’t stand this voice,” Harrison expressed before Domenica added: “I’m f*cking triggered by her voice.”
As Harrison continued to imitate his MAFS wife, Domenica said he “did the Bronte voice really well there”.
She then proceeded to mock Bronte herself.
After Sometimes Coco‘s TikTok highlighting the hypocrisy was shared on So Dramatic!‘s Instagram page, several fans also expressed their concern about the segment.
“I usually find myself onside with Dom but this hypocrisy [is] on a ridiculous level,” one penned. “It’s odd that neither Dom or Ella realised in the editing process and still released it.”
“So much for women supporting women. Take the hate down a north,” another wrote.
A third expressed: “How hypocritical of her to mock Bronte’s voice when the whole highlight of Dom’s season was her smashing a glass because she was hurt that someone commented on her voice.”
Reality stars weigh in on Domenica’s ‘nasty’ comments about Bronte
Even serial reality star Yvie Jones said it was “all quite gross”.
Yvie’s Gogglebox co-star Angie Kent also weighed in, saying the podcast was “really hard to listen to”.
“The girls provided no space for Bronte’s side of the story, only going off leaked online content or he said she said…. and just blindly believing the dross that came out of his mouth [sic],” she wrote.
Adding, “Especially when they both know how this experience is and editing etc.”
The former Bachelorette star went on to say it was “super disappointing”.
Domenica’s MAFS rival Olivia Frazer shared her support for Bronte, writing: “Team Bronte”.
While Carolina Santos said: “Hate to say this but told ya”.
Big Brother star Hannah Campbell also called Domenica out for her comments, labelling the segment “disgusting”.
“Jealousy is a disease… get better soon Dom [sic],” she said.
Former MAFS bride Jaimie Gardner added her two cents, telling Ella to “run”.
Domenica’s latest rival, Liam Cooper, left a comment of his own, calling her a “bully” once again.
“True colours always come out and hers are starting to show!” he said. “Why put someone down for their voice? Nothing but a bully.”
Domenica Calarco responds to backlash on TikTok
Domenica later took to the original TikTok’s comment section to defend herself – AKA double down – claiming the incidents were “completely different”.
“Thank you for your concern but I really do think this was a completely different scenario/situation,” she wrote. “I wasn’t mocking someone for their voice.”
In a subsequent comment, the 30-year-old said: “I said that the voice he said it in sounded like Bronte, very different.”
However, onlookers weren’t buying it.
“You were [100 per cent] mocking Bronte,” one user refuted.
“What does ‘I’m f*cking triggered by her voice’ mean?” a second penned. “You were having a dig admit it.”
Another fan expressed: “I love Dom, but she can’t be saying ‘I’m triggered by her voice’ when that was a major issue for her on her season.
“Not it sis.”
The controversial podcast emerged just days before Harrison’s ex, Sophie, debunked his lies from the episode in a tell-all with the So Dramatic! podcast.
