Married at First Sight Australia 2023‘s Jesse Burford has revealed why he applied for the show multiple times, and TBH, this honesty is refreshing AF.

As we all know, there’s a litany of reasons people sign up for the infamous experiment. Yet, only two really stick to mind: love and fame (and a few hundred thousand Insta followers).

For Jesse, however, he said there are “plenty of answers” as to why he wanted to dive headfirst into a TV romance and subsequent media onslaught.

“This is the second time I applied for MAFS,” he confessed in episode 271 of the So Dramatic! podcast, revealing he also tried his luck for the 2021 season.

“This is what I’ve said since Day One, to be honest with you: YOLO [You Only Live Once].

“I had wide eyes and all these positive thoughts like, it’s going to be so much fun, and it just didn’t turn out to be all that.”

And uh, no shit…

The “challenge” of the experiment was another drawcard for Jesse.

“I’ve been single for seven years, and I haven’t had a very healthy relationship history in the past with the women I’ve told I was in love with them,” he confessed.

“I’ve been quick to find reasons not to continue the romance with someone, so being asked by production, ‘Why do you want to do this?”, I was like, well, ‘It would kind of make for a cool challenge’.

“Normally, I would find a reason to not continue seeing someone. Here’s a scenario where I kind of have to stick it out.”

Jesse Burford reveals advice he was given from past Married at First Sight contestants

As a born and bred Western Australian, Jesse was privy to a wealth of knowledge from fellow Perth alumni Booka Nile and Beck Zemek.

The wedding celebrant dished that the two 2021 brides offered him “so much advice”.

The number one tip that they gave him was that “MAFS is three phases“.

“The first is filming. The second is having to watch it back and then the third is life after,” he explained. “And I really am beginning to understand what they meant by that.”

The 30-year-old said it’s “been so tough” reliving the show on TV, “knowing what [he] know[s]”.

“How some people have been edited… It’s just frustrating to an obscene point.”

Jesse’s comments foreshadowed the rest of his So Dramatic! tell-all, in which he explained his bride Claire Nomarhas got a glowing edit far beyond what was necessary.

He even dished on derogatory comments she made that were omitted from the final cut, plus the unseen fight that would have proved he wasn’t the “bad person” production made him out to be.
