A Married at First Sight Australia 2023 contestant has responded to expert claims the 2023 cast don’t have what it takes to make it as full-time influencers once the season wraps.

Last year we saw a number of MAFS stars gain over half a million followers from their time on the show. However, this year, the cast hasn’t attracted anywhere near the numbers of their predecessors, putting their potential future Instagram careers in jeopardy.

As revealed in episode 270 of the So Dramatic! podcast, one contestant addressed the claims, saying they were more “confused” than “disappointed” by the lack of followers gained.

“I didn’t go on there to be famous or to have a media career like the cast did last year, I went on there for love, so I don’t really care,” they explained. “I don’t think anyone actually cares too much this year.

They went on to say that whilst the difference in followers of the 2023 cast compared to the 2022 cast has been spoken about amongst cast members, the discussion has mainly been about the fact it “doesn’t seem to check out.”

“It’s not even a slight difference, it’s a huge difference to last year and the ratings have been higher this year so it doesn’t make sense if anything,” they said.

Producers claim Channel Nine purchased followers for their ‘favourite’ 2022 cast members

According to the contestant, there was also chatter amongst the cast and producers during filming that Channel Nine purchased followers for “favourite” contestants last year.

“There was talk among production during filming that Channel Nine had bought followers for some of the favourite contestants last year,” they dished.

“Some productions mentioned it to some of the cast and said it was a tactic to build more hype for them and the show and they often do that for their favourites who they are pushing as the show’s heroes.”

They added: “I noticed [redacted] from last season has quite a lot of bot comments on her posts if you look. I would rather have a genuine following, not a fake one.”

Experts say MAFS 2023 brides don’t have what it takes to be influencers

Experts claimed that the 2023 cast don’t have what it takes to make it as full-time influencers once the season wraps.

“These days you can’t quit your day job with anything less than 300,000 followers and even then they have to be super engaged. The market is more saturated than ever,” the influencer manager told Yahoo Lifestyle.

Experts claimed that the 2023 cast don’t have what it takes to make it as full-time influencers once the season wraps.

Although many contestants have signed with talent managers already, their follower counts aren’t even close to what they need to make it in the industry. Eek! Who’s gonna tell them?

Whilst previous seasons have seen brides amass over 500,000 followers, the current brides haven’t reached the same level of fame.
