A former contestant of The Block has revealed that it’s not uncommon for Blockheads to blow the budget after Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra were outed for allegedly spending $80,000 over their allocated funds.

Recent episodes of the show’s 18th season have seen House Three SLAMMED for overspending, with host Scott Cam cutting off their funds completely.

One Reddit user even unveiled that the husband and wife duo were in debt of almost $82K after their hallway reno, even though there were still four weeks left to complete.

Now, as reported in episode 221 of the So Dramatic! podcast, the vitriol Sharon and Ankur have copped for their expenditure could be uncalled for, particularly when it’s common to go WAY over budget on The Block.

“Talk to any Block contestant over the years, can guarantee this is the norm,” an ex-star confessed. “Channel Nine never provides enough money.

“They just rely on sponsors.”

The former Blockhead even admitted that they “had invoices hitting [their] email for months post-build”. YIKES!

“I just keep flicking to Channel Nine, so I can see how they were eventually paid.”

How Does The Block‘s Sharon and Ankur’s Spending Stack Up Against Other Contestants’?

Reddit user cintropy alleged that Sharon and Ankur had spent $295,915 on their build after Hallway Week, offsetting the minute $16,000 they won in challenges.

Despite Ankur literally being an accountant, he and Sharon had the worst financial sitch of all teams, coming in at $81,915 in the red.

Also at the bottom of their money box were Omar Slaimankhel and Oz Malik, who appeared to be $52,437 over budget.

In contrast, Dylan Adams and Jenny Heath succeeded their budget by just $6,530. Meanwhile, latecomers Rachel and Ryan Carr‘s debt was relatively tame at $14,102.
