After her elimination on Beauty and the Geek Australia 2022, Emily Mccarthy shared how her time on the show has helped her “heal” after experiencing a traumatic sexual assault.

Taking to Instagram on August 1, Emily admitted that “Beauty and the Geek was such an amazing experience”, explaining she was a victim of assault just months before she started filming.

“I was a victim of a sexual assault from someone I trusted and was meant to be a close friend,” Emily said, adding: “I was completely broken and was in a very dark place with no hope of finding light in my life again.”

Emily then explained she was interviewed for Beauty and the Geek three days after the horrific event.

“I was hesitant at first. I knew it was the world picking me back up off the floor and giving me an amazing opportunity to overcome the biggest hurdle ever thrown at me,” she said, before saying she had “slowly started to heal”.

“The people I met and the memories I made [brought] my sparkle back, and even though I don’t think I’ll ever fully get over what happened to me, I have learnt that it does not define me, and so many amazing things have happened since and will continue to happen moving forward,” Emily said.

Emily went on to tell anybody who has experienced similar trauma that “things will get better” and reminded them that they had “so much to live for”.

“Great things will come to you just please continue fighting, healing and regaining your love for life,” Emily said, before offering anybody who was struggling to reach out to her.

“This is a battle no one should ever go through alone, and I hope this is a reminder that so many amazing things can happen if you allow them to. Just keep fighting,” Emily said.

After sharing her own traumatic experience with pregnancy loss on BATG, Bri Auty wrote: “Your one special human to us all, An inspiration. I’m so sorry you went through this [sic].”
