Married at First Sight Australia 2024 will reportedly be featuring another same-sex couple and this is music to our ears.

According to reports, two men will be ‘tying the knot’ on the show for the first time since the marriage equality laws were passed in November 2017.

If you ask us, it’s pretty problematic that it’s taken this long to feature a gay couple but hey, at least there’s finally some movement!

According to an insider, producers have been weary about casting same-sex couples because they wanted to “get it right”.

“We’re not just adding diversity for the sake of it, but to genuinely represent the many colours of love,” they dished.

In 2020, MAFS featured its first lesbian couple, Amanda Micallef and Tash Hertz, but there have been no same-sex couples since then.

MAFS expert Mel Schilling says previous same-sex representations went ‘horribly wrong’

MAFS expert Mel Schilling expressed her feelings about the LGBTIQ+ couples that appeared on the show in the past.

In August 2022, the matchmaker told Metro that things went “horribly wrong” when casting the first same-sex couple, Craig Roach and Andy John, in 2016.

After filming, Craig took to Facebook to confess that he’d suffered from PTSD post-show, as Andy was a “chain-smoking, binge drinking all-round party boy from hell”.

Despite the calamity, Mel said that there were “great lessons to be learnt” from the experience.

She also explained that helping people “genuinely find love” was the ultimate priority.

“We didn’t want to simply match people based on sexual orientation,” she added.

In 2019, a Nine spokesperson made a similar statement, telling an outlet that they didn’t want to feature a same-sex couple “just for the sake of appearances”.

They also revealed that there weren’t enough gay singles applying for the show and we’re not buying this. With the amount of scouting they do, we’re sure they would’ve been able to find more diverse cast members. Just sayin’…

Who else will be starring on Married at First Sight 2024?

Alongside the yet-to-be-introduced same-sex couple, Lauren Dunn has been tipped to appear in the upcoming season of the marriage experiment.

The Perth-sider owns a PR and marketing consultancy called LCD Consulting and she’s also a food blogger.

Now, in a move that’s very on-brand for MAFS stars, Lauren has already been embroiled in her fair share of scandal. It’s been reported that she broke up with her boyfriend of five years in June, which wasn’t very long ago! Something just aint adding up here…

It’s also been rumoured that 2022 groom Mitch Eynaud‘s bro Jayden will be debuting in the upcoming season. And his wife better pack her running shoes, because if his brother is anything to go by, she’s gonna need them!
