After losing $100,000 last season, Tom Calleja has been spotted working on the upcoming season of The Block Australia 2023.

The plumber and his wife Sarah-Jane Calleja devastatingly took home $20,000 profit after the show’s 2022 season despite being fan favourites.

However, it seems like Channel Nine has helped the couple out by employing Tom to work on the new season of The Block.

A photo leaked to Facebook shows Tom in his tradie gear on the show’s building site in Melbourne. It’s unclear whether he’s actually working or a guest star but either way, we’re glad to see him back on the team!

Fans of the show were impressed with The Block‘s production team for “looking after” the Callejas after their difficult loss.

“I knew [Scott Cam] would look after [Tom] and [Sarah-Jane]. He’ll make a good hipages guy,” one person wrote in the comments section.

The Block’s Tom and Sarah-Jane Calleja speak out about their heartbreaking loss

After The Block Finale last year, the couple shared that they lost a whopping $100,000 due to bills, personal expenses and the cost of daycare for their daughter Cleo while they filmed the show.

Despite receiving $200 a day from Channel Nine, Sarah-Jane explained that it only just covered the $120-a-day cost of daycare, with little left to cover bills and mortgage payments.

“[After childcare], we were left with $80 combined to cover all of our bills at home,” the 30-year-old explained.

“Our rates, mortgages, utilities, pay for food for ourselves the whole time, food and clothes for our daughter, just everything.”

Luckily, the reality stars were able to recoup some of their losses by selling the $80,000 Ford Ranger they won during Landscape Week.

“Honestly, Ford Australia saved us financially and we are so grateful they gave such a generous prize to the show that we were then able to win!” Sarah-Jane said.

“Our plan was always to keep it but we needed to reimburse our lost money from going on the show.”
