The Block 2022‘s Tom Calleja and Sarah-Jane Wilson have confessed they need to sell their car after the shocking final auctions left them in financial ruin.
The popular Blockheads’ build was expected to be the favourite on auction day; however, their five-bedroom, three-bathroom Gisborne ranch only sold for $20,000.99 over the reserve price.
Taking to Instagram following the finale on November 6, the couple said they’ll “unfortunately” have to sell the $80,000 Ford Ranger they won during Landscape Week.
“We will be walking away with 100K, so no complaints from us,” they added.
Just moments after the shock auction, the parents of one-year-old Cleo told Nine that the result was “disappointing”.
“We spent more than $20,000 of our savings to be here,” Sarah-Jane said of the gruelling 12-week competition.
Even though their auction didn’t go as well as expected, the duo still managed to see the positives in the experience.
“People are a lot worse off than us, so we’re still happy to be alive,” Tom added. “$20,000 is better than nothing.”
The sentiment rang true in their Instagram Story, too.
“Even if we walked away with nothing, we had the experience of a lifetime and something we can tell our grandkids about!” they penned.
“Are we disappointed sure [sic], but nothing is ever guaranteed, and at this point, I think we’ll be fully over it by Tuesday.”
Tom Calleja Brutally Dissed The Block Co-Stars Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra
Ahead of the nail-biting auctions, Tom and Sarah-Jane were asked about their relationship with House Three’s Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra.
As previously revealed by So Dramatic!, things became a ‘lil bit tense between the houses after Sarah-Jane reportedly sent a message “bagging” Sharon to the contestants’ group chat.
However, chatting with the Herald Sun at Derby Day on October 28, the social worker said things are “super chilled” between the pair.
“I saw Sharon a couple of days ago, and it was super chilled,” Sarah-Jane admitted. “Everything is good. I want everyone to do well [on auction day].
“They just did not have the same experience as us. It was as simple as that, they just did not seem to enjoy [the show], and we did.”
Meanwhile, her hubby Tom responded more brutally about Sharon and Ankur.
“No one wants to hang around negativity, do they?” he said of their outlook on the series.
“I have no interest in pursuing a friendship with them.” Ouch!
