Big Brother Australia alum Skye Wheatley has revealed that she and partner Lachlan Waugh are trialling a “co-parenting” arrangement with their two sons, Forest, four, and Bear, one.

The 28-year-old social media star opened up about their decision to trial co-parenting on TikTok, which was later re-shared to a private Instagram watchdog account, Influencer Updates AU.

In the footage, Skye explained that she and Lachlan “trialled co-parenting” by having a two-night rotational system with their kids.

“I would have the kids two nights and he would have the kids for two nights and then two nights on, two nights off. That’s what we did. We practised a little bit of co-parenting,” Skye explained.

She continued: “After a little bit of doing that, he was like ‘okay, you can come home now‘ because obviously, I don’t think he liked it. We like being together as a family but I feel like for us, we needed a break.

“Obviously, I didn’t want to be away from the kids for as long as we were away from each other. So we just co-parented for the period of the break.”

Skye Wheatley confirms that her partner Lachlan Waugh is a ‘hands-on dad’ for their sons amid confused fan assumptions

Some fans assumed the worst of Lachlan’s parenting after the clip re-emerged, and Skye was forced to make another statement on TikTok, clarifying that her partner was a “hands-on dad”.

“We do everything half-half, we take turns in everything. We go halves in everything. Everything is pretty even across the board when it comes to the kids,” Skye said in a gym ‘Get Ready With Me‘ video.

“I just wanted to jump on and say that Lachy and I do share half-half responsibility,” she said.

Skye noted that Lachlan had been “working a lot” when they had Forest, but she asked him to “step it up” when she found out she was pregnant with her youngest son.

“I pretty much said to him when I fell pregnant with Bear, ‘look, you’re a parent too. I want you to step up and do more of the parent things,” Skye said, explaining that she felt like the “sole carer” before that time.

However, she clarified that Lachlan had always been more “hands-on” than many “other dads”.

“I basically just wanted to jump on [to TikTok] and say, he does do a lot for the kids and I didn’t want you guys to think he’s useless. That is definitely not the case, he is a very hands-on dad,” Skye confirmed.

Skye Wheatley admits it is difficult for influencers to be ‘open’ and ‘honest’ online

The mother-of-two went on to share her frustration that her comments are often “misconstrued” by fans.

“This is the trap that you get yourself into when you want to be open online. There are so many assumptions and things that you have to clarify. You do need to explain yourself,” Skye said.

She felt that other influencers weren’t as “honest online” because their comments often became “misconstrued and twisted”, regardless of the real intention.

Skye suggested that “people make up their own assumptions in their head about what’s going on” about her family and personal life, based on what they see online.

“I do like being honest with you guys but if I’m going to be honest about some things, then I do need to get on and explain the rest of what’s going on,” Skye said, later clarifying that when she said “honest”, she meant to say “open”.

She added: “Some things, believe it or not, I haven’t talked about. I would love to talk about it with you guys but this is kind of the reason that I don’t because people have their own thoughts and opinions. Sometimes, it’s not always exactly correct.”
