Twin bombs Madeline “Mads” and Hugh Wilcox caused quite a stir in the Love Island Australia 2022 villa.
The 25-year-old makeup artist appeared as one of the final intruders during the December 6 episode. She was soon joined by her brother and the newbies decided to keep their sibling connection a secret from the other islanders.
But it turns out Mads and Hugh weren’t initially keen on sharing their reality TV plans with each other.
Speaking to So Dramatic! after the December 20 finale, Mads revealed that she had no idea Hugh had also sent in an application for Love Island Australia 2022.
“We applied and auditioned separately. I didn’t actually know that Hugh had applied. We both put each other’s names down in our application [as contact references],” Mads said.
She continued: “It just so happened to be coincidentally we both got the email saying we’ve got through.” Yep sure, the producers totes didn’t just choose them after noticing the same last name and birthday…
“We just basically rocked up to audition. We auditioned separately and then they brought him to audition together,” Mads said.
Mads and Hugh Wilcox decided to keep their twin connection a secret from the other Love Island Australia contestants
Love Island fans suspected the producers had decided on the bizarre “twins plot twist” as a home-brand version of Netflix’s Dated and Related.
But it turns out the Wilcox twins actually concocted the scheme on their own (and honestly, we think that might be worse tbh).
Mads told So Dramatic! that she and Hugh decided to have a “bit of fun” by tricking the other islanders.
“We came up with the idea when we went in. It’s a bit of a point of difference being twins, so going in there, having to think a story and go along with it was definitely tricky,” Mads explained.
“It was definitely hard because Hugh is such a big part of my life,” she told us.
“I’m glad we let the secret out when we did because I feel like I couldn’t have carried it out any longer. I couldn’t really relax [during] conversations because it was hanging over my shoulders.”
NGL, we were glad they let the secret out too, it was awkward AF to watch.
Viewers knew they were twins, but we had to watch as they talked each other up to the other islanders and even pretended they were about to kiss before FINALLY making the big reveal.
“I’m the ultimate wingman for Mads. I’m her twin, I know everything about her. I know what type of guy she goes for, so I’m definitely going to give her a hand with that one,” Hugh said.
He ended up having to listen to Callum Hole give a total f*ckboi spiel about how hot Mads was and LOL! If it isn’t the consequences of your own actions, Hugh!
