The Block 2024‘s Ricky Recard and Haydn Wise have revealed the truth about Jesse Maguire and Paige Beechey‘s ‘villain edit’ and whether they’re as bad IRL as we’ve seen on-screen.

From disrespecting the building crew to constantly blowing up at Jesse, Paige has cemented herself as one of this season’s villains, dragging her bae down with her.

However, bestie duo Ricky and Haydn have defended their co-stars, claiming they were “great people” and don’t deserve the hate they’ve been copping online.

“I think it’s pretty obvious that Jesse and Paige had their dramas… But they’re such great people, and I really had a great time with them,” Ricky told Yahoo Lifestyle.

“I enjoyed The Block as much as I could and had such a great time doing it. It makes me sad that some people didn’t have that same experience.”

The Block’s Ricky and Haydn hit back at claims the show is too dramatic

Ricky also responded to fan complaints that the show has become too dramatic.

“Unfortunately, [The Block] is always going to get drama,” he said. “The situations you’re in, the limited sleep you get, what you’re trying to achieve and the pressure that you’re under to make budgets.

“I think it’s easy to sit on your couch with a tub of ice cream and go, ‘Oh, that’s a heap of drama’. But if you consider the big picture, people are under so much pressure.”

Haydn chimed in, explaining that while his friendship with Ricky became stronger after the show, The Block’s challenging nature would be “enough to break any person.”

“Being contestants on the show and going through our challenges and being absolutely pummelled and taking hit after hit… You can understand why some people struggle to deal with situations,” he said.

“It’s easy to look at The Block and go, ‘It’s just about renovating’, but it’s also about being able to roll with the punches and overcoming challenges… That’s definitely one thing I didn’t consider,” Ricky added.

“But we’re lucky enough that that’s just something we’re used to doing. Just rolling with it, laughing in the face of danger, and enjoying ourselves along the way.”
