Former Married at First Sight Australia bride Melinda Willis has highlighted a big change affecting the 2024 participants that has flown under the radar.
As part of the So Dramatic! EXTRA podcast‘s AFTERMAFS series, Melinda — who appeared on MAFS in 2023 — shared her thoughts on the current season and plus spilled some behind-the-scenes tea on how the show works.
In her chat with host Megan Pustetto, she pointed out that during her run in the experiment, participants were “100 per cent not allowed” to hang out with each other off-camera.
“We were very, very strictly not allowed to communicate, meet up with or spend any time whatsoever with any other contestant other than your partner,” Melinda explained.
“But then [this season] you see them allowing Lauren [Dunn] and Sara [Mesa] to upload a photo of them hanging out.”
Noting that for the photo to end up on the brides’ Instagram accounts, Melinda said producers would have had to “approve” it.
This appears to mean producers have changed the rules this year to allow participants to hang out off-camera.

Lauren and Sara aren’t the only brides to be catching up behind the scenes.
On social media, there are also photos and videos of the brides hanging out with Eden Harper.
Meanwhile, her husband Jayden Eynaud has posted photos with Cassandra Allen and Michael Felix.
News of this apparent rule shift comes after participants told So Dramatic! that several participants had an off-camera girls’ night which was the catalyst for a sh*t-ton of drama between Sara and her bae, Tim Calwell.
