Former The Block contestants Kirsty Lee Akers and Jesse Anderson have spoken out against the 2023 season’s rule changes, and honestly, their criticisms are valid!

ICYMI: The Block‘s 19th season kicked off on August 6, and, after the house decider challenge, host Scott Cam revealed that this year will be like none other.

For the first time ever, the Blockheads have been given their entire $250,000 budget upfront. They also have access to the entire 12-week schedule AND Scotty will foot the bill for all plumbers and electricians.

No biggie, huh?

While this was EPIC news for the current contestants, past Blockheads couldn’t help but feel a little short-changed.

Kirtsy and Jesse — who battled it out on The Block 2021 — called the Charming Street renovations a “walk in the park”.

“This would have been amazing to have, oh and the roof/walls and bed to sleep in looks awesome too,” the pair wrote under the schedule posted to The Block‘s official Instagram account.

A number of fans also shared their similar feelings, hitting out that contestants have it “easy”.

“What are the contestants meant to do with all this help, take a stroll?” one viewer asked.

Another suggested: “Why not just build it for them?”

The extreme changes come after recent seasons were scandal-heavy. In 2022, several Blockheads fell into debt. Meanwhile, Tanya Guccione was caught taking photos of the filming schedule and sending it to her co-stars back in 2021.
