The Block 2021 has been punctuated by “the biggest cheating scandal in TV history” for the last 12 weeks, and FINALLY, we have answers as to who took that photo.
In the final episode of this season, twins Josh and Luke Packham revealed that Tanya Guccione was the one to take a snap of the embargoed production schedule!
Throughout the season, Tanya and her husband Vito maintained that an “anonymous tradie” forwarded them the schedule. They also claimed to have deleted the messages.
The Melbourne parents stuck to the same story during their final interview of the season, but there was one addition that made the scandal all the more interesting: a message thread with said mystery tradie. Yep… the one she claimed to have deleted.
Tanya expressed it was a screenshot from the 4th of May before she corrected herself to say the 4th of February. Fellow contestant Kirsty Lee Akers later revealed that The Block didn’t begin filming until late Feb. Oooh, someone’s telling porkies!
What Is Josh and Luke’s Version Of The Cheating Scandal?
After Tanya solidified “her truth”, Josh and Luke rubbished the claims that a tradie was the catalyst for the scandal.
“Obviously we know the truth and we haven’t been saying the truth so we feel now is the time to say it. This is the truth and this is the time to say it,” Josh said.
Sitting down with producers, the boys revealed the incident kicked off when the cast filmed the show’s promos.
“We had the production office being used as a toilet and I went in there,” Josh confessed. He added that he looked at the schedule but under no circumstances did he take a photo.
45 minutes later, Tanya then told him she had also seen the schedule. It was then that she asked Josh to stand guard while she took a photo of it. The image was later sent to Luke.
Unsurprisingly, this negates Tanya’s version of events, in which she claimed she and Josh came across the schedule together.
Why Didn’t The Twins Come Clean About The Photo Earlier?
The twins said they feared for their place in the competition had they come clean about the scandal earlier.
Josh and Luke expressed they thought they would be eliminated from the competition. They also explained they were worried that their relationship with House 3 would be jeopardised had they dobbed on Tanya.
Giving examples, the brothers thought their plans for a pool and their driveway relocation would be knocked back in retaliation.
“I have to say the truth now, if not I’m going to regret it and I don’t want to hold on to a lie like this for the rest of my life,” Josh concluded.
Tanya Finally Admits She Took The Photo
When the teams reunited to learn their homes’ reserve prices, it was apparent they had all been informed of the twins’ confession.
However, nobody was as surprised as the main culprit herself.
Talking to Vito, Tanya said she wished the boys had told her they were coming clean. The real kicker? She wanted the same opportunity to clear the air! Even after she had countless chances throughout the season!
Eventually, a producer asked Tanya once and for all if she took the photo of the production schedule.
“Yes I did,” she finally admitted. “Yeah I took the photograph.”
“What I want to say is that I obviously take full responsibility for this situation and I’m sorry, like I’m truly sorry,” Tanya said.
And, well, in the wise words of Rihanna: “Baby when I know you’re only sorry you got caught.”
