Married at First Sight and Love Island Australia star Al Perkins has revealed doing all those shoeys eventually impacted his health — big time.
ICYMI: The larrikin’s signature party trick is drinking alcohol out of a shoe, and while many fans may think it’s gross, Al shows no signs of letting up.
At least until he contracted somewhat of a fungal infection in his throat.
The 26-year-old revealed at the Yahoo All-Star MAFS Reunion that while he finds doing shoeys “very liberating”, not every stint is a successful one.
“I remember one time I did a shoey, someone gave me their shoe and I did it, and I gave them back their shoe and they were like, ‘Oh, I’ve got warts on my foot’,” he recalled.
Yep, that’s the sound of us dry-retching!
According to Al, his “throat hasn’t been the same” since that encounter.
However, don’t wave goodbye to the shoey anytime soon.
“I’m not sick of shoeys just yet,” he confessed. “It gets the group going and it uplifts the mood. I’ve never denied a shoey, I’ll always keep doing them.
“I’m at the stage now, it’s been like over 12 months since our season aired and they forget my name, they forget everything about me, but all they remember is the shoey part.”
He concluded: “I’m just going to ride it out for as long as it lasts.”
Al’s revelation wasn’t the only one to surface at the Yahoo! event.
Evelyn Ellis blows the lid on ‘villain edits’ at All-Star MAFS reunion
At the same reunion, 2023 breakout star Evelyn Ellis clapped back at co-stars complaining about getting a “villain edit”.
Whilst many of her cast mates have copped bad edits, the marketing manager said that what fans saw on TV was pretty accurate.
“For me, I know a lot of people talk about ‘the edit’ and how people are perceived, but I feel like [the show] captures the main essence of the feeling of the room,” the influencer dished.
“I wasn’t too shocked or blown away by the famous ‘edit’,” she continued.
“I was like, yeah that happened, and obviously there was a steer in narration, but thoughts and feelings, I think it was pretty true to home. For me anyway.”
Former bride Janelle Han agreed with the 26-year-old, stating that her co-stars received “pretty accurate” edits.
“I think a lot of things don’t get shown because you’re filming for so long, but if they had to pick the top line of what happened in most relationships, I think that was shown,” the 28-year-old added.
