Married at First Sight Australia 2023’s Rupert Bugden allegedly had a “heated argument” with Dan Hunjas during Boys’ Night over the butt-dial scandal.
While we would’ve loved to see this play out on screen, Rupert has denied the claims, going as far to say that he doesn’t remember much from the alcohol-fuelled night.
During an interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle, the 27-year-old admitted that producers asked him to bring up the butt dial with Dan on Boys’ Night.
“I just told [Dan] the truth and he accepted it, we shook hands and there was definitely no bad blood,” he shared.
“I’ve seen online that we got into a heated argument, but it definitely was not like that at all.” Disappointing, tbh!
The electrician said that people were calling him a “dirty dog” for exposing the 42-year-old’s antics on their boys’ night out.
However, Rupert stood his ground and admitted that “those things did happen, and it’d be so much easier if [Dan] just apologised”.
A Married at First Sight producer confirms that the butt-dial storyline is fake
During the February 28 episode, Rupert’s on-screen wife Evelyn Ellis claimed he’d accidentally butt-dialled her during a night out with the other grooms.
On this call, she said she overheard Dan talking sh*t about his wife Sandy Jawanda, so she spilled this tea to the rest of the MAFS cast.
However, So Dramatic! exclusively revealed that the butt dial never actually happened and was set up by producers to create drama.
In episode 263 of the So Dramatic! podcast, one rogue producer dished that the whole scandal was orchestrated to “blindside Dan.”
Once the head producers of MAFS caught wind what Dan said about Sandy, they orchestrated “a fake ‘butt-dial situation.”
Evelyn agreed to play a role in this scandal “because she was essentially a producer’s puppet, happy to do whatever they needed her to do in return for favourable airtime”.
As such, a “fake confession scene” was set up to “expose Dan’s boys’ chat”.
