Married at First Sight Australia’s Daniel Holmes has been slammed on social media for drinking alcohol and smoking a cigar during an Instagram live, which “promotes an unhealthy lifestyle” (his words, not ours!).

ICYMI: The 31-year-old took to Instagram on December 5 to call out a size-inclusive Nike activewear display for “promoting an unhealthy lifestyle” and an “early death”. You can read all about his sh*t takes here.

Just days after his eye-roll-worthy claims about being “concerned” about people’s health, the personal trainer took to Instagram yet again to show the few fans he has left a peek at his own lifestyle choices.

Taking on a ‘When in Rome (Turkey)’ attitude, Daniel briefly smoked a cigar while sipping on a sugary alcoholic mixer during the Live.

“Since I’m in Turkey, I’m really trying to embrace the culture, as they say. Ya boy got a cigar, I might give this a crack in a sec,” Daniel said, explaining he used to be a “big smoker”.

Soon after putting his cigar out, Daniel reaffirmed his claim about “unhealthy behaviours”.

“As a society, we need to be careful If we start promoting unhealthy behaviours, where does that lead us in ten years? End of story,” he said. And um, sorry wut?

It wasn’t “end of story”, however, as he argued that “debates arise” when looking back at “history” and analysing “gender”, including “what it means to be a man, what it means to be a woman, what it means to be overweight…”

Yeah, we have no clue what kind of Andrew Tate-esque BS he’s going on about either…

Instagram users call out Daniel Holmes for being “hypocritical” by smoking a cigar and drinking alcohol

Daniel’s blatant hypocrisy rubbed his “haters” (read: literally anybody who had a different opinion to him) the wrong way.

Instagram users argued that while Daniel had the right to drink or smoke, he was “promoting” those “dangerous” products by showing them on his Live.

Many believed it was hypocritical to claim that “unhealthy lifestyles” – which included being plus-size, according to Daniel’s claims – should not be promoted in the media, when he was also showing off “unhealthy” products.

“Just a heads up, in regards to ‘health’, more people die from alcohol use and smoking than they do from carrying extra weight [sic],” one user wrote.

Another claimed: “You smoke and drink and yet you still have something to say about plus-size people’s health? Worry about your own [health], get well soon.”

“Look at you promoting an unhealthy lifestyle lol. The irony,” a third wrote.

“So drinking and smoking is ok but a [mannequin] promoting plus-size clothing is unhealthy??? Ummm… 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ [sic],” another asked.

Married at First Sight’s Daniel Holmes responds to hypocrisy claims

Of course, Daniel had a half-baked excuse for his hypocrisy, claiming everybody was being “petty”.

“How the hell [are] you talking about normalising unhealthy behaviours is wrong while smoking a fucking cigar and drinking alcohol hahaha I’m weak [sic],” one user wrote.

Daniel responded: “Exactly, we collectively accept and understand that those are unhealthy, yet having an unhealthy BMI is unacceptable to be acknowledge[d] as a concern lol [sic].”

It should be noted that countless publications and journals – including Business Insider, Harvard Health and Healthline – have provided evidence to prove that BMI (body mass index) is an “arbitrary, outdated” and “misleading” metric that doesn’t accurately measure health.

During the Live, Daniel also addressed the claims that he “hates fat people”.

“I’m like, what? What do you mean? I’m fat. Have you seen my physique right now? I look trash.”

He also complained that he had “thousands” of negative comments in response to his original video, which “hurts his feelings”, despite claiming he was “open to difficult conversations”.

He claimed that people were “frothing at the d*ck” for a “reason to be angry” because they were “bored,” before adding he was “f*cking sick of talking about it”.

“Everybody [from MAFS] wants to cling on to something saying ‘I have an input’ when they don’t even know sh*t… Just shut the f*ck up,” Daniel said.

Hmmm, sounds awfully familiar…
