Married at First Sight Australia 2022’s Daniel Holmes has doubled down on his blatant body shaming and fatphobic remarks about a “plus-size” mannequin.

ICYMI – The 31-year-old personal trainer took to Instagram on December 5 to call out a size-inclusive Nike activewear display.

“Those that say this is empowering are completely delusional. It’s promoting an early death. There’s no power in that [sic],” Daniel claimed.

Since we (and everybody else who saw this abysmal sh*t-take) called him out for his fatphobia, Daniel doubled down on his claims. Because, of course, he did.

Daniel Holmes Digs Himself An Even DEEPER Hole As He Tries To Back Up His Unresearched, Fatphobic Claims

The anti-vaxxer shared two videos trying to justify his outrageous body shaming, attempting (and failing) to pull the victim card by calling himself “public enemy no.1”.

“Anybody that knows me closely knows that I’m not a d*ckhead,” Daniel said. NGL, it’s giving: ‘I’m not racist, I have black friends’ vibes.

He started one video by suggesting the media have taken his statements out of context and um, we’re directly quoting the BS you said.

Daniel shared a photo of a mid-size mannequin in Nike activewear to Instagram. Source: Instagram.

“I’ve done a bit of a scan through of all the crazy DMs and got a bit of an overview of what people are saying,” he said.

Oh, has he started to reflect on how he might be wrong or needs to do further research? Of course not!

Daniel Holmes Suggests Plus-Size People Should Wear Clothes to the Gym

Daniel first addressed the argument that plus-size people need size-inclusive activewear to actually go to the gym or exercise (if they want to).

He sarcastically claimed that plus-size people could just wear “clothes” to the gym. Babes, WTF do you think the mannequin is wearing?!

He went on to add point out that you don’t need to wear branded activewear to go to the gym. So, apparently, mid- and plus-size people aren’t allowed to follow fashion trends? Good to know!

Daniel added: “The issue is when brands start to cater to this unhealthy body type. My concern is, where does that lead? Where does promoting unhealthy body types lead?”

Oops! Sorry, we must have missed the giant neon sign over the mannequin stating that everybody should have that body type. Our mistake!

Daniel added that he was trying to look at the situation with “compassion”, and we nearly fell off our seats at that nugget of absolute bullsh*ttery.

“I’ll start with compassion. I understand it’s quite difficult to lose weight… I’ve worked in the fitness industry for nearly 10 years, this isn’t a new subject to me,” he continued (and isn’t that a scary thought).

He added: “There are steps in order to do it, they’re relatively simple but to execute it is pretty difficult. It takes a lot of consistency, discipline, sticking to the fundamentals.”

Yeah, steps like going to the gym regularly. In clothes, as you’ve suggested. That is, of course, if the person even wants to lower their body weight, which is literally none of your business, Danny boy!

Daniel Holmes Reckons People Arguing For Body Inclusivity are “Uneducated”

Daniel claimed that people who argued in favour of body positivity and inclusivity were “uneducated“, which is why they were “so offended” by his statement.

He went on to “educate” the very few people who actually stuck around to listen to his BS (which, unfortunately, included us).”

Daniel suggested there were “two types of body fat” – “subcutaneous body fat” or the “fat that builds up under the skin” and “visceral body fat”, which he describes as “dangerous” because it’s “fat that builds up internally”.

Friendly reminder that Daniel is making these judgements about a mannequin. It doesn’t have organs or visceral fat. It’s plastic!

Daniel Holmes Clarifies Why He Believes He Has Any Right To Make Judgements About People’s Bodies

“I shouldn’t even need to do this, but at the same time, it’s partially my fault,” Daniel said. He didn’t need to make the statement in the first place, but that clearly didn’t stop him.

“I need to be very articulate with my words because they can get misconstrued quite easily. I want to make it very clear that I have absolutely no negative feelings towards anybody who is overweight at all. That was never my point.

“I think people can wear whatever they want. There should be clothes for all types of people,” he said. We wished he finished there, we really do…

“My point is pointed at brands that try to capitalise on overweight people and make money out of it. My concern is, where does that lead down the future?” he continued (there’s that “articulation” he was talking about).

“In 10 years, is everybody going to be overweight because we’re being slowly programmed into believing that’s okay,” said MAFS‘ resident conspiracy theorist.

He really thought he did something there.

Other Reality TV Stars Have Slammed Daniel Holmes For His Fatphobic Claims

Jessika Power called Daniel out for “promoting insecurities” and “bringing people down”.

“People go to the gym to HELP THEIR BODY WEIGHT 🤨 no matter their size no matter their gender, clothing is clothing and if they want to wear gym clothing to the gym how is that promoting an unhealthy lifestyle or body weight?” Jessika wrote.

She continued: “The clothing brands aren’t ‘promoting’ an unhealthy body type. If anything, it’s encouraging people to know that no matter what size you are (first of all that’s no one’s business but their own) you can wear something that perhaps might be motivating 🙄.”

Married at First Sight’s Betty Rawmoore agreed, adding: “I get so angry when someone that also works in the health and fitness industry fails to recognise let alone understand, that there are not only a plethora of different body shapes and sizes that every human might have AND be completely beautiful and healthy within.

“There are also sooooooo many factors that might impact a person’s health or weight at various times in their including genetics, hormones, injuries, medication, disease or disorders… and what so because a person is a different size you can judge their ‘health’ by looking at them? And therefore they don’t deserve to be catered for by big brands? Seriously? Argh [sic].”

Fellow MAFS alum Tash Herz added: “He has a teeny tiny narrow view and understanding of health. Just pure ignorance.”
