The Masked Singer Australia 2022 fans were baffled after wild card Microphone was unmasked as an international superstar, Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams.
Many fans questioned why Microphone had such a short run on the show, especially after Michelle previously appeared in multiple other versions of The Masked Singer around the world and has made a name for herself in one of the most successful girl groups of all time.
Speaking exclusively to So Dramatic!, a production insider shared some insight into Michelle’s seemingly premature departure from the show, revealing that she was only contracted to appear in a few episodes.
“Michelle was a huge get for the network; however, she was only contracted for a set number of episodes – her contract explicitly stated that,” the insider said.
“People thought it was strange that she was kicked off before Rooster because she is an international superstar and a Grammy Award winner; however, the network could only afford to pay her for a certain amount of time and not for the entire season.”
The insider then explained that producers twisted the show’s format to accommodate Michelle, with the introduction of “wild card” contestants.
“There was a reason they did that, and as usual, it all comes down to contracts and money,” they explained. “Michelle was never going to win the show because their budget doesn’t allow it, but they still wanted to have a big name like her on the show for publicity – even if it was only for a couple of episodes.”
The Destiny’s Child alum appeared on The Masked Singer US in 2019 and The Masked Singer UK in 2021.
Uhm, does anybody know if Michelle speaks Korean we can guess where she might appear next!
Michelle later revealed on Instagram that she had been booked to do a Masked Singer “world tour” in 2020, which was cancelled due to COVID.
“So I did my own version of a tour,” Michelle wrote, adding that “it has been a joy”.
The Masked Singer Australia 2022 Judge Abbie Chatfield’s Outfits Could Be a Giveaway For Who Will Unmasked
The Masked Singer Australia fans have always been suspicious about the unmasking decisions, with many believing it was decided by producers ahead of filming.
This seems all the more likely with the industry insider’s tea about Michelle. It’s all coming together!
But it seems the wardrobe department is also given a heads-up about who is going to be unmasked on which nights.
Throughout the season, the three new female judges – particularly Abbie Chatfield – have worn stunning outfits that match the eliminated mask perfectly. Talk about being aesthetically pleasing!
And when Popcorn was voted out on August 21, Abbie wore a glittering red mini-dress.
On August 23, Abbie wore a sparkling silver two-piece and eerily matched Microphone’s costume.
We’re quickly learning there’s no such thing as a coincidence on The Masked Singer Australia!
