All of The Masked Singer Australia clues suggest that Rooster is a four-time Logie Award winner and besties with none other than Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson.

Despite The Masked Singer Australia judges’ guesses (A.K.A Keanu Reeves, David Guetta, Russell Brand and John Farnham) or the fan-favourite theory of it being Grant Denyer, we think it’s another celebrated Australian actor.

With the vocal chops and matching clues to boot, we are so sure that Rooster is Packed to the Rafters actor Hugh Sheridan.

Why Do We Think Hugh Sheridan Is Rooster on The Masked Singer Australia?

Rooster introduces themselves as being “cocky for a reason”, which could be because Hugh has won numerous Logie awards.

Rooster also declared that “family is important” to him, which could be a nod to the family-based dramas they’re most known for — Packed to the Rafters and the spin-off Back to the Rafters.

“Some people see me as untamed, I’m okay with that. Maybe that’s why I’m so close to doing all the dumb things,” the mystery performer said. “Family is important to me, privately and publicly, but I don’t like to do a big song and dance about it.”

What’s more, is that Hugh’s IRL also has a big presence in the entertainment industry.

Their father is late swing singer Dennis Sheridan. Their brother Zachary is a stage actor and playwright (he also famously went missing and was later found in Nepal in 2015) and their sister Zoe is a radio and TV presenter.

Rooster’s References to Hugh Sheridan’s Performing Arts Background

Rooster saying “I don’t do a big song and dance about it” could be a reference to Hugh’s appearance on the short-lived competition, The Real Dirty Dancing.

They also have an established singing career with their band California Crooners Club and their recent Neil Diamond tribute show Solitary Man. And, not to mention their starring role on the docu-series, INXS: Never Tear Us Apart.

“As a child, I learned about attitude,” Rooster said.

An “attitude” is a ballet dance position and Hugh studied at the Australian Ballet School when they were 16.

Rooster then mentions “a place without a chandelier” and the California Crooners Club did a popular cover of singer Sia‘s Chandelier.

What Are the Other Clues for Rooster on The Masked Singer Australia?

Rooster said learning about attitude “kept me out of the darkest places”. This could refer to Hugh speaking openly about being “cancelled” in 2021 and their subsequent struggle with depression.

Before coming out as nonbinary (they/them pronouns) and bisexual in 2021, Hugh was “cancelled” for being cast as the iconic LGBTQI+ character Hedwig (who is often read as transgender) in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

In a visual clue, Rooster reads a book called Australia’s Great Churches; Hugh is from Adelaide, known as the City of Churches.

In the clue package, Rooster was also fitted for boxing gloves in a gym that had a poster of an AUSCAR Championship.

There’s also a late New Zealand boxer called Hugh Sheridan. The name even pops up on Wikipedia when you search for our Hugh, The Masked Singer Australia‘s Rooster!
