A number of Australian reality stars have shared their abortion experiences after the US Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe V Wade case.

In 1973, the history-making case granted women in America the right to terminate a pregnancy and now, its overturn allows over half of states to ban abortion and tens of millions of Americans will face immediate and enduring impacts.

Since news of the Supreme Court’s decision broke on June 24, countless reality TV stars have shared their stories in solidarity with women’s reproductive rights.

Alex Nation

Two-time Bachelor franchise star Alex Nation confessed that she is “terrified” of the Court’s decision to overturn Roe V Wade, particularly as someone who has terminated two pregnancies.

“As someone who has chosen abortion at the age of 16 and 25 the news of Roe V Wade being overturned was jarring,” she wrote alongside a photo of her 16-year-old self. “I wondered where and who I’d be if that fundamental right was taken away from me?”

The mother of two added that she is “terrified” for those “who will now feel they need to take matters into their own hands”.

“I’m angry, I’m sad and right now I’m in total disbelief that in 2022, Women’s rights are STILL being taken away from them.”

Jaimie Gardner

Married at First Sight 2021 intruder Jaimie Gardner took to Instagram to tell her followers of the abortion she had at 34 years old, after her partner at the time told her “he would rather die” than become a father.

“I had an abortion and experienced one of the darkest times in my life,” she penned. “I did it for him. Did he care? No. Am I grateful I could? Yes.

“Whilst it is our body and our f*cking choice, men need to care about this too!”

The now 37-year-old continued by saying her experience is “sadly, not unique”.

“Making the already difficult experience criminal in the US demonstrates the [utmost] lack of understanding. For those who need it and for those that choose it.”

Brooke Blurton

Sharing Abbie Chatfield‘s abortion post to her Story, Brooke Blurton praised her fellow Bachelor alum for her “vulnerability”.

The 27-year-old also called on women to “come together” at this time as she seemingly put their post-Bachie feud to rest.

“Yes the media has [played] into our once was ‘friendship’ but it takes a very strong human to speak up about this and disputes aside. I have always saw past that and admire the vulnerability Abbie has. [sic].” Brooke said.

“After going through my own experience of an abortion only very little time ago… I am so lucky (if that’s the word to use) to have a choice,” she wrote.

“We need to be there for another more than ever. Education learning, is key. But also fighting together. [sic].”

Maria Thattil

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here‘s breakout star Maria Thattil took to social media to say she was “grateful” for her right to choose.

“I was 21 when I had my abortion,” she posted on both Instagram and Twitter. “There isn’t a single day that goes by where I am not grateful that I could safely access the procedure and healthcare for my circumstances.”

Domenica Calarco

Taking to the comment section of Abbie’s post, Married at First Sight‘s Domenica Calarco commended the reality star on speaking out about her experience.

The TV bride also said the “taboo nature” of abortion previously made her nervous to share her own story.

“I’ve often felt very apprehensive of sharing my very own experience because of the taboo nature that surrounds abortion,” she penned. “I cried this morning when I saw the news. I have no words…”

Abbie Chatfield

Abbie posted a photo of herself taken the day before she had an abortion in March 2018.

As a staunch advocate for women’s reproductive rights, the 27-year-old revealed the Roe V Wade overturn made her “sick”.

“I cried myself to sleep last night hearing of the news of Roe V Wade being overturned,” Abbie penned. “The joy from conservatives in preventing access to necessary healthcare is barbaric and terrifying. Overnight, abortion rights have been stripped in 12 states.

“As someone who has had an abortion, it made me sick.”

The incoming The Masked Singer Australia judge said she was thankful to have “access to safe abortion”.

“I was 23, and had a decent job, but I did not want a child, and that was reason enough,” Abbie explained. “It wasn’t an easy decision but it was the right decision.”
