The Block 2024‘s Maddy and Charlotte Harry have called out how their co-stars treated them when they replaced contestants Jesse Maguire and Paige Beechey.

ICYMI: Maddy, 24, and Charlotte, 22, joined the series with just 24 hours’ notice after Perth-based couple Jesse and Paige chose to quit the competition to preserve their mental well-being.

And as if stepping onsite weeks into the competition to complete a half-finished home wasn’t daunting enough, the Sydney-based sisters were also met with the wrath of their new competitors.

While Kristian Belperio cheekily nabbed House One’s plasterers (leaving the sisters without), Kylie Baker downright admitted to the camera that she wasn’t going to play nice.

So, how did Maddy and Charlotte feel about the icy reception?

Kylie was not a fan from the get-go,” Maddy recalled to Yahoo Lifestyle. “We don’t really know why she had that reaction.

“That was disappointing, and that was a bit sad. Obviously, it’s hard for us to come into an environment where it’s like we’re not intruders.”

She continued: “We’ve been asked to come here, and we’ve dropped everything from our lives to be here and pick up the pieces, so that was hard. But there were some people who were friendly and showed us around, and that was nice.”

Maddy and Charlotte Harry say The Block 2024 was a ‘lonely experience’

Maddy also revealed that much of The Block was “quite a lonely experience”.

“Our experience was different to others and it was at times harder, and for a long time, we really only had each other,” she admitted.

“It was quite a lonely experience. We really relied on each other, and we could really only trust each other.”

While they are “so grateful” for the opportunity to join the show, they would have loved it if it had been from the beginning of the season.

“Obviously there are things where you have to grieve the fact that you don’t get that four weeks experience with the other contestants… You don’t get to have all those fun, exciting things like everyone else did in the lead-up,” Maddy explained.

“That is sad, and that is something that we dreamed of all our lives growing up watching The Block that we would have that experience. But at the same time, we were just grateful to be given an opportunity, and we were like, let’s just run with that.”

Why weren’t Maddy and Charlotte Harry cast on The Block 2024 from the start?

The sisters revealed they were never “properly told” why they weren’t originally cast in The Block‘s landmark 20th season.

However, during the casting process they came to learn that their “biggest obstacle” would be separating themselves from 2023 sister team, Eliza and Liberty Paschke.

“I know that they had two sisters the year before… We were told in the first interview we ever had that that would be our biggest obstacle,” Maddy said.

“Obviously, in casting, they need to differentiate the cast. We were always told from the beginning that that was something that we would have to overcome.

“But we weren’t really told the details; we didn’t have time for that!”
