The Block 2024‘s Kristian and Mimi Belperio have slammed claims that they’re set to be this year’s “villains”.

In March, reports circulated that the newlyweds were tipped to be more controversial and “divisive” than 2023 villains Kristy and Brett Beames.

However, after reading these reports during filming, the pair defended themselves against the villain allegations.

“The description of a villain is like how you’d see it in Disney movies; it’s like an evil person who’s cruel,” Mimi told Yahoo Lifestyle. “I’m just not that type of person in real life or any life, and neither is Kristian.”

Kristian then confessed he “had a laugh” and “brushed off” the rumours, whilst Mimi was “absolutely shocked”.

“It made me question myself and go, ‘Oh wait, is this true?’. It made me doubt myself,” she added.

Kristian and Mimi say they’re the same in real life as they were on The Block

Mimi then claimed that her portrayal on The Block so far was accurate.

“My biggest thing is authenticity, and I was like that from start to finish,” the restaurant manager said.

“It’s so weird because you know what your experience was, but you don’t know what they’ll include. And then we watch it, and it’s like, ‘Oh my god, did we really say that?’. But I enjoy watching us, I think we have banter,” she added.

“That’s sort of how we are in our everyday life,” Kristian chimed in.

“We try not to take life too seriously, and we’re always keen to have a laugh or a joke, and the way that they’re portraying it so far is pretty much how we are in our everyday lives.”

It comes after the couple raised eyebrows this season when Kristian forged two signatures on a demo permit.

Kristian and Mimi say The Block was their ‘honeymoon’

The duo also claimed that The Block was their honeymoon after tying the knot just three months before the show, before detailing the struggles of navigating a new marriage whilst filming.

“It really was a test. Kristian was doing things that I’ve never seen him do before, and I’m sure I was behaving in ways because it’s a weird place,” Mimi admitted.

“You’re trying to work on your relationship whilst you’re doing this crazy renovation show whilst cameras are in your face, so everyone has arguments.

“We came out of it stronger but needed to come out of it to have perspective. Because when you’re in it, you’re not in the real world.”

So it sounds like Mimi and Kristian aren’t one of the couples tipped to break up before the auctions…
