Married at First Sight Australia 2024‘s Ben Walters has unpacked his list of cons about Ellie Dix, plus the surprise song he wrote for her.
During the February 27 episode of the marriage experiment, Ben returned to the apartment to express his feelings through song after going MIA following the most recent Commitment Ceremony where Ellie wrote “leave”.
Things quickly took a turn for the worst when Ellie alleged she sat through a “two-hour” lecture from Ben, who read her a list of his dislikes about her. Yikes.

While this was caught off-camera, Ellie said her TV hubby didn’t like that she wears makeup and that she’s from the Gold Coast nor was he thrilled with her being “sensitive and emotional”.
Fans were quick to criticise Ben for “nitpicking” as a way to explain away his sh*tty behaviour. However, Ben told So Dramatic! that his list was misinterpreted by viewers.
“It was interpreted like I was Ros Geller from Friends doing a pros and cons list,” he said. And yeah, that’s totally what it looked like!
Ben then clarified some of the points on his list.
“In terms of makeup. I’m happy if she wears makeup. Totally up to her,” he claimed. “I found it challenging if we would go to Woolies, and it took 45 minutes to get ready.
“This wasn’t a deal breaker, just something I held in to keep the peace and when I mentioned it, given the situation, it blew up.”

The travel tour guide also told So Dramatic! that he and Ellie’s “biggest divider” was their communication styles.
“I struggle because, at times, my language can be harsh or too direct. Ellie has a kind soul, and I’m a bit rough around the edges,” he explained.
“Good connection through good communication, especially trust, is my number one value. I never fully had that with Ellie.”
He continued: “I wasn’t being fully honest about my doubts or imperfections with Ellie. She’s an amazing woman. At the end of the day, I just felt it was trying to put a square peg in a round hole.
“I bottled it in for as long as I could until it boiled over.”

In an image of the list obtained by So Dramatic!, Ben penned his concerns under a banner titled, “Why it’s not working for me”.
They read as follows:
“Not matching her sensitivity. When communicating problems, it results in an emotional outburst.
“Problems: more Ben time. Cooking/housework/balance the house $ groceries [sic].
“Bedroom etiquette, walking up, Ellie… I feel unwelcome in the bedroom.
“Not wanting to debrief the day.
“Vaping. Spending hours doing makeup,” which Ben noted were “manageable”.

The 39-year-old also listed things that weren’t “working for Ellie”.
This included:
“Not debriefing the experiment. Not wanting to hear it.
“Not telling her my insecurities.
“Feels she doesn’t have a voice.
“I don’t do well under pressure.
“Me off-camera vs on-camera.
“Not sharing my opinions in a group setting.
“I haven’t called her out of her imperfections.
“Me not subscribing to drama.

The notebook also detailed what appeared to be a game plan for Ben’s final days in the experiment, indicating that he is to write “leave” at the upcoming Commitment Ceremony.
“You have three to five days left,” he wrote. “Be kind. Be in the moment. Enjoy the experience.”
He also noted for himself to “surrender and accept it’s over”.
“Have a laugh where possible. It costs $0.00 to be kind,” he concluded.

As for his much-talked-about apology song for his wife, Ben told us it was “notes and thoughts which evolved into song lyrics”.
“I use music as an outlet,” he said. “Never in a million years would have thought I’d make telly.
“I can barely play and can’t sing to save my life or, in this case, can’t sing to save my wife.” LOL!
In his lyrics, which he also shared in full with So Dramatic!, he detailed his and his wife’s abovementioned concerns.
“If there is a guy better suited for you, I will understand because I want you to be happy,” some of the final lyrics read.
And it sounds like his wish is Ellie’s command because she and their co-star Jonathan McCullough are now an item!

Ellie Dix’s cousin and friend call out Ben Walters for ‘trying to control the narrative’
After So Dramatic! shared Ben’s notes on social media, Ellie’s cousin Jordan — who we know as the protective family member from her wedding — tagged one of their friends in the post.
The friend responded by saying that Ben’s behaviour is getting “worse and worse”.
“He has so carefully constructed how he’s leaking things,” she penned. “Again proving that he’s STILL trying to control the narrative!”
Referring to Ben’s notes about “bedroom etiquette”, Ellie’s friend said the bride was “annoyed [he was] waking her up at 5 am and keeping her awake until after midnight”.
“There’s no context in his scrawl. Like wake up mate, muddying the waters around you and trying to make her look bad will NOT improve his sad, misogynistic, gaslighting image that he created himself,” she continued.
“I’m so excited for when the finale airs and the actual truth about all these allegations actually come out.”
