It’s been revealed that The Block 2024 contestants have new rules to adhere to in order to avoid looking like they’re only on the show for fame.
After the past few seasons of the hit renovation show have been criticised for featuring those seemingly on the hunt for influencer careers, Nine is taking new measures to keep the new cast as relatable as possible.
An insider revealed to Yahoo! Lifestyle that “the upcoming batch of Blockheads have been asked to cull their Instagram followings to avoid looking like potential ‘influencers’ or ‘fame hungry wannabes’ for the 20th Anniversary series”.
“The last two weeks leading up to filming have seen several brand new contestants deleting up to thousands of followers to meet this criteria from Channel Nine,” they continued.
“Apparently, it has happened in other years and is standard for a lot of reality shows.”
The Block 2024 contestants are already in ‘damage control’
The source explained that one interstate couple “halved their following overnight and dropped all brands from their accounts”.
However, this raised suspicions among their friends and family “who should still be in the dark” about their involvement on The Block “at this stage”.
“All involvement in the new series should be kept a secret,” they explained. “They would be in damage control ‘lying’ to their friends and family for sure.
“The mission all contestants must undertake to maintain their anonymity is quite full on. Their contracts are quite long and they will be booted from the show if their names get leaked prior to the broadcast of the first episode.”

News of Nine’s latest tactics come after it was revealed that 2023 winners Steph and Gian Ottavio will return for the 2024 season to dish out Block Bucks.
