The Block has announced that it’s still casting for 2024 and we’re not surprised after the train wreck that was the last season.

ICYMI: The 2023 series was one of the most explosive to date, with many viewers expressing their concerns over bullying and unsavoury behaviour from the contestants.

And despite putting out casting calls in September, the hit renovation show is struggling to recruit new Blockheads for the 20th anniversary season.

On The Block Shop blog on January 18, it was confirmed that “not all places had been filled” for the season, which will film on Victoria’s Phillip Island later this year.

“So if you are on the shortlist somewhere across Australia, keep that phone close by because you could get that life-changing call from Lucky SOON!” the blog added. And it sounds like they’re getting desperate!

The Block fans BEG producers tone down the ‘DRAMA’ for 2024

Following the casting call update, The Block fans took to Instagram to BEG the show to focus more on renovation than drama in the upcoming season.

“Please choose [contestants] on their talent and not on the drama they’ll bring to the show,” one person wrote in the comments section.

“You’ve lost myself and my family over the years due to not focusing on what we actually tune in for — renovating and styling ideas.

“Go back to what you did well in the beginning. We are so over the bullying, bitching, backbiting and all-round poor behaviour of your contestants.”

Another claimed that the past seasons had been “downright horrific”.

“I will not watch BULLYING nor IGNORANCE nor GAS LIGHTING nor ANYTHING NEGATIVE… It’s a HOME RENOVATION SHOW, so let’s keep it at that,” they added. Yikes!

‘I don’t do drama’: The Block fans are put off from applying for the show

One fan shared that this was the first year they hadn’t applied to be a contestant on the show.

“I don’t do drama, and with over 20,000 followers on TikTok who encouraged me to apply again, it was a no from me. I’ll see what the next series is like before deciding if I’ll apply again or not,” they said.

Another person shared the same thoughts, commenting: “Please make this show about the renovations, the interior decorating, the styling and not about the personalities… Go back to what you produced when this show first appeared on TV.”

Others asked for “less drama queens”, whilst a disgruntled netizen penned: “How about picking some ‘real people’ Aussie hardworking battlers!”

So it looks like the show is in need of a HUGE shake-up!
