Two-time star Trevor “Big Trev” Butler has slammed Big Brother Australia 2023 for creating “artificial drama” amid a ratings plunge.

This season, originally dubbed Big Brother: House of Love, introduced a cast of “sexy singles” for a Love Island-inspired twist.

However, reports have been circulating that the once-beloved reality show will be axed after the current “flop” of a season wraps.

And, according to Trevor, who took home $1 million after winning the series in 2004, Big Brother should return to its OG form.

“I think it was a mistake making it the House of Love this year,” the reality star told New Idea.

“They’ve got all of these pretty people in there… and they seem to be going for that Survivor, MAFS vibe with all of that artificial drama and excitement. That’s why it’s doing so badly.” Ouch.

The 50-year-old then asserted that people liked the show “better” when it was “old school” and focused on “ordinary people”.

“It was more about the social aspect,” the father-of-two recalled.

“It’s changed so much from when it was just people reacting with each other. We live in an age where everyone’s immersed in social media. Why wouldn’t they just take advantage of people-watching 24/7?”

After winning the series in 2004, Trevor returned to the show for a second run in 2022.

Fans call Big Brother a ‘HORRIBLE’ Love Island knock-off

Big Brother 2023 was doomed from the start, only hitting 274,000 viewers nationwide when it launched on November 6, reports TV Tonight.

And it seems fans weren’t too keen on the romantic twist, with many calling the show a “horribleLove Island knock-off.

Others were quick to call out the show for its lack of diversity. And it’s 2023, so it’s safe to say we’re disappointed.
