The Block 2022 contestants Omar Slaimankhel and Ozman “Oz” Abu Malik and Rachel and Ryan Carr have urged fans to “go easy” on the new Blockheads, as starring on the renovation show is harder than it seems.

According to Omar and Oz, who took home a whopping $1.6 million after winning the show’s eighteenth season, filming the show is “very, very tough”.

“We got pretty lucky and walked away with a fair bit of money, but there [are] people on the show that [leave] with nothing,” Omar told Yahoo! Lifestyle.

“[Viewers] need to understand that it’s very hard to be on The Block. It’s not easy building a home in 12 weeks. It’s not easy doing it in front of cameras where you’re watched 24/7 and it just takes a lot of mental strength,” he added.

Oz chimed in, stating that fans should “go easy” on the current cast because of what they have to endure on set.

“Just imagine getting recorded 16 hours a day, waking up before sunrise [and only getting] miked off before you go to bed.

“[Producers] are in your personal space. But you’ve got to understand, it’s reality TV before a reno show, so you’ve got to respect the boundaries and give them what they want,” he explained.

The Block 2022’s Rachel and Ryan call out trolls for misinterpreting storylines

According to Rachel, viewers should make sure they’re getting their facts straight before commenting on events online.

“The one thing that I’ve noticed with the hate is that people comment on things that don’t actually happen. It’s [usually] their interpretation of things, but they say it like it’s fact,” she said.

She then urged viewers who post about the show online to ensure that they’re “commenting on what actually happened”.

“And if it’s your interpretation, [say], ‘This is just my opinion,” she explained.

“Because then what happens is someone will be like, ‘Oh my gosh, did you see Rachel just slap Sarah-Jane [Calleja]?’ When really I was like, ‘Hey babe, how are you?’.

“And then all these people write under it, ‘I hope that she was reprimanded,’ and I’m like, it didn’t happen!”

Ryan also added that the contestants work very hard, but this isn’t accurately portrayed on the show.

“[Viewers] don’t think the contestants do a lot. They think [the] builders do everything,” he said, explaining that this is because the producers cut a lot of their hard work from the edit.

As such, he wished viewers got to see how things “really played out”.
