The Block Australia 2022‘s Sarah-Jane Calleja and Rachel Carr have shared their savage thoughts on last season’s shock auction.
ICYMI: Last year, fans were absolutely shook at the wild results of the final auction. Winners Omar Slaimankhel and Ozman ‘Oz’ Abu Malik took home a whopping $1.6 million. Third-place winners Rachel and her hubby Ryan Carr pocketed $169k, whilst their pals Sarah-Jane and Tom Calleja walked away with a mere $20k.
During the first episode of their new podcast I Just Can’t, the two Blockheads spilled some juicy BTS goss about the show’s controversial finale.
“Let me ask you this. [Oz and Omar] go in first and come out with $1.6 million. Did you think we were all going to come out with that amount of money?” Rachel asked.
“No. Because the boys were the only two with two registered bidders,” Sarah-Jane recalled.
“The only reason it went up so high is because you had two huge egos… Two huge millionaires pumping it out. And I’m thinking, ‘Well, that millionaire isn’t coming to my auction’.”

The mother-of-one then went on to explain that the auction order played a huge role in determining who went home with the most cash.
“That’s the whole reason the boys went first, because they were the only house with two registered bidders,” she continued.
“People always ask me about the auction, but I’ve never really spoken about it because I don’t need to justify sh*t to anybody… but they had to go first.”
The 30-year-old then shared her BRUTAL thoughts on last year’s winning property and this one’s spicy.
“No one thought it was going to win. I personally didn’t think it was the best house and that’s not throwing shade, that was my opinion the entire time.
“But they had two huge egos with a shitload of money… and that was the recipe for success,” she admitted.
Tom and Sarah-Jane lost $100k during their time on The Block
Now, we totally understand why the reality star was so salty on her pod. After last year’s finale, Tom and Sarah-Jane shared that they lost a whopping $100,000 due to bills, personal expenses and the cost of daycare for their daughter Cleo while they filmed The Block.
Despite receiving $200 a day from Channel Nine, Sarah-Jane explained that it only just covered the $120-a-day cost of daycare, with little left to cover bills and mortgage payments.
“[After childcare], we were left with $80 combined to cover all of our bills at home,” she explained.
“Our rates, mortgages, utilities, pay for food for ourselves the whole time, food and clothes for our daughter, just everything.”
