The Bachelors Australia 2023‘s Thomas Malucelli has revealed how he “practised” dating ahead of appearing on the Channel 10 reality show.
Now, we all know how that experience ended for him (single, yet again, after ending his engagement to his final pick Leah Cummings).
So, what exactly did the restauranteur do in preparation for his stint on The Bachelors?

Chatting to Love Island Australia‘s Taku Chimwaza on his Back to Reality podcast, Thomas said he’d been out of the dating game for two years when he got the call-up from Ten.
“I had been in a relationship for eight years, and then me and my partner broke up in 2020,” he explained. “Then I went through some stuff where I realised, ‘F*ck, before I start dating anyone else, I want to heal.”
The 36-year-old said he was just “focusing on hustling”.
“I was grinding, I was working on my business and I bought all these books about sex and relationships. I was like, ‘Damn, I knew nothing!'”
He continued: “So no real dating in those two years, but when I received that famous call from the talent scout for The Bachelor, I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, I’m about to go and date multiple women all at once. I need to go and practise.'”
The Bachelors‘ Thomas Malucelli used dating apps to ‘practise’
Thomas then explained that he turned to dating apps to get him back into the dating headspace.
“I downloaded Hinge and Tinder and I just went…”
Taku then chimed in: “Damn! These poor girls, bro.” And yup! Imagine meeting a guy you really like, only for him to tell you he’s just preparing to go on a reality dating show…

The former Bachie then said he was “going on two days a week” in the leadup to filming.
“I had to get back into that rhythm of dating and asking questions,” he explained.
Taku then asked for clarity, particularly about whether Thomas was just trying to “get a bit more confident meeting someone new”, or whether he was trying to get some “practise in bed” too.
“I will not confirm or deny that accusation,” Thomas replied with a laugh.
The interview comes after Thomas’ ex-fiancée Leah revealed all about their romance on the So Dramatic! podcast.
During the episode, she disclosed what lead to the demise of their “weird” romance after she realised he “wasn’t the person [she] fell in love with on the show”.
