FBOY Island Australia 2023‘s Vernon Lyon has broken his silence after his ex-Brogen Laura‘s explosive appearance in the finale.
ICYMI: Vernon (whose real name is Brodie, go figure) claimed he’d split from Brogen six months before filming the Abbie Chatfield-hosted reality series.
However, his gal on the show, Molly O’Halloran, tracked down his ex, who said he’d dumped her for the show with plans to play the game, win the money, and then link back up with her afterwards.
Brogen then showed up at the finale to expose the tradie on camera. It was all sorts of wonderful, and we’re still replaying the moment in our minds.
She later appeared on Abbie’s It’s A Lot podcast, during which she dished a whole lotta drama that went down between her and Vernon.
Now, the mullet-sporting, stache-slinging FBoy has given his side of the story, in episode 305 of the So Dramatic! podcast.
When did Vernon Lyon and Brogen Laura ACTUALLY break up?
While Vernon’s own timeline of his relationship seems murky, he insists the pair broke up just before Christmas of 2022 following a night out.
“We were out in Surfers [Paradise], having a great night. I went to go hug her from behind and dropped her bag on the floor,” he explained.
He claims that Brogen “went off and started screaming” before she “slapped” him in the face.
“She assaulted me that night,” Vernon alleges. “It was a hard slap.”
He said he ended the relationship then because he wasn’t prepared for Brogen to continue to treat him this way.
In text messages between the couple sighted by So Dramatic!, Brogen said she “didn’t remember the slap”. She later admitted the incident was a “drunken mistake” and it “wasn’t supposed to be a serious hit”.
Despite this encounter, Brogen has told So Dramatic! that they didn’t break up at this time. In fact, she “spent Christmas with his family”.

Vernon Lyon addresses claims he was still with Brogen Laura when he signed up for FBOY Island Australia
During her It’s A Lot interview, Brogen said the pair officially broke up on February 1 when he text her about being “invited to go to FBOY Island“.
While Vernon admits the pair were still sleeping together at this stage, he claims he was very clear they’d officially split following the slap.
“I met up with her at the beach. I said to her, ‘I’m not dating you ever again. There’s no way’,” he explained. “That’s when she thought we broke up. I was like, ‘No, we broke up, that we weren’t dating’ after she slapped me.”
However, in screenshots obtained by So Dramatic!, messages between Brogen and Vernon indicate they were still very much together.
“Hope you had a good sleep, I love you,” Vernon wrote on the morning of February 1.
Just a few hours later, he sent another message: “I’ve just got a call that I’ve been invited to go onto a TV show in Feb.”
The subsequent conversation showed Vernon explaining the show’s premise and telling Brogen he wouldn’t be “picking up” girls.
She told him that she’d “prefer if [he] didn’t” go on the show. However, he insisted that he’d “do this one thing and the rest of [his] life” would be dedicated to Brogen. Sheesh!
What really happened when Brogen Laura showed up at the FBOY Island finale?
In his chat with So Dramatic! host Megan Pustetto, Vernon claimed that Abbie and the FBOY Island crew were aware that Brogen had slapped him in the past.
In fact, he brought this up on camera when Molly invited her to the finale.
“They’re like, “Let’s hear your side of the story’,” Vernon said. “I said to everyone, ‘Me and Brogen broke up before Christmas as she slapped me’.
“Abbie Chatfield knows that she slapped me out in public and she still defends Brogen.”
According to Vernon, “no one said anything” when he explained this.
“Abbie just started rolling with the next little segment thing she was doing,” he said. “Everyone was like, ‘Oh, sh*t’, then that was it.”
Vernon then explained that his whole side of the story never made the final cut.
Brogen Laura and Vernon Lyon slept together after FBOY Island
But wait, there’s another huge plot twist we did not see coming… According to Vernon, he and Brogen slept together post-show, even after all that finale hullabaloo.
However, not before she hooked up with his co-star, Mitch Wright.
A day after the show wrapped, several of the cast went out, which is when Vernon claims Brogen “went home with Mitch”.
The next day, she “left Mitch’s and came over to” Vernon’s place, where they proceeded to sleep together.
Apparently, their rekindling eventuated because Vernon called Brogen to find out whether she and Mitch had been intimate.
“Mitch had said to me, ‘I wouldn’t sleep with her dude, I got your back’,” he recalled. “Then he went and did it.
“It’s more the fact that I was wondering if Mitch lied to me. I didn’t really care that he slept with her. But like, if, if he would have told me he was doing it, I would have been fine.”
So, why did he sleep with Brogen after she’d hooked up with his mate?
“I was quite horny, to be honest. So I invited her over because she stopped me from getting with anyone else.”

Did FBOY Island’s Vernon Lyon cheat on Brogen Laura?
Now let’s address the cheating allegations…
Brogen told Abbie that whenever she and Vernon would fight, “he would go out and post these things” of other women to “get a reaction” out of her.
“Then one night, the next morning I went through his phone and saw recently deleted messages of him speaking to this girl, like sexting her,” she alleged.
However, Vernon says this isn’t exactly how it went down.
Apparently, he went to the Gold Coast 500 motor racing event without Brogen because she “didn’t want to be with [his] friends”.
“We broke up that day,” he said, adding that they basically “broke up every weekend”. And geez, we can’t keep up!
“We didn’t have any communication for a complete week.”
In that week, a girl that he used to talk to before dating Brogen started sliding into his DMs. He claims she then started sending him “unsolicited nudes”.
“The last thing I said to this girl was, ‘I’m getting back with my ex, I’m gonna have to stop talking to you’. And that was the last thing I said to her,” Vernon said.

Explaining that he “wasn’t really a f*ckboy in the first place” (sure, Jan), Vernon revealed he has been dating his current girlfriend, Jess Taylor, for around three months.
“We met at a friend’s marine shop opening. He’s a marine mechanic. So he just opened his own new shop and we were at a party there,” he said.
“I’ve got a lot of energy, go, go, go, and she’s the same. So it’s like a perfect match.”
