Australian Survivor: All Stars 2020 winner David Genat has spilled the beans on hosting Channel Nine’s new adventure show Rush.
The reality series follows 12 everyday Aussies as they travel the world on the adventure of a lifetime and the actor has shared his excitement for the new series.
Speaking to Yahoo! Lifestyle, the 43-year-old explained the premise of Rush, stating that it’d “never been done before”.
“We get these 12 contestants and we put them in cultural festivals all throughout the world.
“They have sensory deprivation, so they’re in goggles and they have noise cancelling headphones and they don’t know where they are,” the model dished.
“Then they have to complete missions to find me and get around these countries with next to nothing. They only have a backpack and minimal funds. It’s incredible.”
The adventure series was filmed in nine countries, including Brazil, Turkey, Jordan, India, Thailand, Ireland, France, Kenya and South Africa. And, according to the actor, this added to the cultural richness of the show.
“We picked these really great festivals and unique experiences for the contestants to be a part of and it really transports the audience into those situations. We’re showing you real elements of these countries.
“That’s what I love about [Rush] because I’ve done a lot of travelling. I had a career for 20 years in fashion and I was travelling all the time and I think there’s something special about finding unique experiences in countries,” the Celebrity Apprentice star said.
Reality star David Genat says his transition to hosting reality TV feels ‘natural’
The reality star revealed that the transition from participating in reality TV to hosting it felt very “natural”.
“I had got off Survivor and wanted to be hosting immediately. COVID took me down the Celebrity Apprentice route, which was a great experience and introduced me to Channel Nine,” he shared.
“I went into some meetings with those guys and they were like, ‘What are you looking to do?’ and I said, ‘Well, I want to host my show’. So it was just a matter of finding the one that fit.”
David also said that he was very inspired by long-time Survivor host Jonathan LaPaglia.
“[Jonathan’s] someone where you see what he does and it’s so impressive,” he gushed.
“You realise how important he is to the process, because you come with this certain energy to a Tribal Council and then it’s on Jon to harness that and make you feel at ease or find out the hard questions.
“So I saw what Jon had done and I wanted to bring my own unique brand to the show,” he added.
If you love a bit of adventure, you can catch Rush on Monday and Tuesday night at 7:30pm on Nine and 9Now.
