In his leaked Married at First Sight Australia 2023 audition tape, Duncan James said that he related to grooms Al Perkins and Dion Giannarelli from the 2022 season.
When asked which previous cast members he connected to, the cyber security salesman said he shared the same confidence as Al, which caused issues in his past relationships.
“You know, I am a pretty confident person and maybe too confident for some people. In a relationship, that might come across as easygoing, because I don’t get upset about them doing little things so it looks like I don’t care that much,” he said.
As such, many of his past relationships felt like “the ‘Duncan Show'”, because he was more confident than his partners.
“I have no problem with putting up something on social media without my shirt on whereas she would think that is ridiculous,” he spilled.
The 36-year-old also shared that he related to the way Dion expressed himself.
“I think I am quite articulate and think that I would be able to have a really good healthy debate,” he said, stating that he finds it “easy to say [his] piece.”
Duncan also admitted that he feels a “stronger responsibility” to look after his partner “than [his] own image within the group setting,” and we’ve definitely seen this first hand. He fiercely protects his wife Alyssa Barmonde no matter what, and we love him for it.
Duncan confesses that he falls in love too quickly
In the leaked audition tape, Duncan confessed that he falls in love very fast and this often leads him astray.
“I keep having relationships where I think that I fall in love, or I think that I fall quickly for somebody and then over time I realise they are probably not the person for me,” he admitted. And unfortunately, we’re watching this play out before our own eyes.
Duncan then revealed that watching his parents’ long-lasting marriage has given him unrealistic expectations.
“Mum and dad have been together for 44 or 45 years. I think they’ve got a great relationship. I had a great upbringing watching them in their relationship and also living in the household that they fostered,” he said.
“Do I have an unrealistic expectation, did they get a little bit luckier than everyone else? It’s definitely what I aspire to.” Aww.
Duncan also said that he’d love to have kids.
“In a perfect world, I’d have two and I’d have one of each. If that was the case I’d go and have a vasectomy straight after that,” he laughed.
He finished his audition by confessing that he’s willing to do “weird and wonderful things in the pursuit of love.” And trust us Duncan we know. That photo shoot said it all.
