Someone claiming to be Married at First Sight Australia 2023’s Alyssa Barmonde’s older sister hosted an AMA on Reddit, and LOTS of tea was spilled.

On March 12, the Redditor, who was verified as the current bride’s older sister, posted on the r/MAFS_AU subreddit to “answer questions to help people see the truth about [her] little sis.”

And as expected, people had a lot to say.

Alyssa Barmonde’s sister reveals how she feels about Married at First Sight’s Duncan James

When asked if the 35-year-old executive assistant’s on-screen hubby Duncan James was as “terrific as he comes across on the show,” and whether there were any “major red flags” which weren’t being shown, the Redditor claimed that there were some warning signs from the start.

“[Alyssa] definitely saw red flags from the very beginning,” she said. However, the bride “trusted in the process and was very raw and vulnerable and gave everything to the experiment.”

The Redditor also stated that “a lot happened off camera that they will never show”, particularly during Confessions Week.

“[Alyssa] gave her 100 per cent worse secret and what did he say was his confession? It didn’t show. Soooo much editing.”

Another Reddit user asked what the 36-year-old cyber security salesman‘s Confessions Week secret was.

Alyssa’s sister replied that she “[couldn’t] answer that,” before stating that “Alyssa put her heart on the line and he didn’t.”

“In my opinion, that’s when she started to feel more worried that he might not be there for the same reasons she was,” she continued.

Another user asked how “Duncan really came across”.

The Redditor replied that Alyssa “felt like [Duncan] was saying all of the right things, but there was never any real intent behind them.”

She stated that this may have been due to Alyssa’s insecurities, but ultimately, everyone “should always listen to [their] heart.”

The Redditor addresses Alyssa’s hypocritical response to the Married at First Sight cheating scandal

The Redditor also discussed Alyssa’s explosive reaction to the cheating scandal between Adam Seed and Claire Nomarhas.

They said Alyssa’s response “was more about the deceit and less about the kiss.”

However, whilst we never got to see it, Alyssa did apologise to Claire for her savage reaction.

“She was very remorseful for the way she acted and apologised after,” the Redditor confirmed, adding that Alyssa “feels like crap” about the situation, and “takes accountability for it.”

When asked about Alyssa’s past affair, her sister confirmed that it happened 13 years ago, and the man involved “was not married when they first started seeing each other”.

“Then [he] was suddenly married, which he told her was ‘for a visa’ and that it wasn’t real … when you’re in that position you want to believe the person you are with,” she explained.

“He was her boss so there was also a power imbalance at play.” Eeek.

Alyssa’s sister unpacks the drama from the Couples Retreat

One person asked why Alyssa was “so temperamental” during her bizarre argument with Duncan on the Couples’ Retreat.

“She made him out to be an absolute asshole when he was just speaking to her so calmly,” the Reddit user expressed.

Alyssa’s sister responded that we only saw “30 seconds of a 45-minute conversation,” and that “everything [Alyssa] said to the girls is what [Duncan] said to her.”

The Redditor continued: “EVERYTHING is so edited. Most of the time when she would cry it’s because they are talking about her son but they edit that part out every time.”

Alyssa’s comment that Duncan wasn’t her type was also addressed in the AMA.

“In her first interview she tells the producers something like, ‘I do not want tall, dark and handsome’,” they spilled.

This is because “tall, dark and handsome” was Alyssa’s “usual type” but it “clearly never worked out for [her],” hence why Duncan wasn’t her type.

In fact, Alyssa asked for a Pete Davidson or a dad bod! The more you know…

Reddit users label the AMA “damage control”

Many Reddit users weren’t happy with the AMA, as they thought it was very biased.

One user said: “Not sure how I feel about this…giving damage control, but you do you,” whilst another stated that they feel that “the AMA of a family member was a bad decision” as it’s not “impartial”.

A third user commented: “You have HER story but probably not his and you weren’t there to witness it. So we still aren’t clearing anything up here.”

Alyssa’s sister responded to these claims, stating that: “There are always 2 sides to every story. This is [Alyssa’s}.”
