Turns out king Tony Armstrong almost signed on to be a lead on The Bachelors Australia 2023 but pulled out for a very good reason.
Before the leading men were announced in early 2022, fans were literally HOUNDING Channel Ten to cast the TV presenter because a) he’s actually interesting and talented, b) he’s funny AF and c) he’s extremely easy on the eye.
It also would’ve been a hero move to cast an Indigenous male Bachie to back up Brooke Blurton‘s history-making The Bachelorette season.
However, as reported in episode 245 of the So Dramatic! podcast, old mate Tony failed to sign on the dotted line at the last minute.
“Lots of the women were hoping and thinking that Tony Armstrong was going to be the Bachelor when they arrived,” an insider revealed.
“In fact, one of the producers told one of the girls’ friends during pre-filming stuff at her hometown that they did have him almost signed on for the series.”
However, the 33-year-old “dropped out at the eleventh hour” because he was “worried” the gig “would be damaging for his brand and career”.
“He thought it might not align with his personal branding and could actually ruin future career prospects.” And look, he’s got a point…
In fact, we’ve seen what it’s done for horny hound Felix Von Hofe so we think Tony has done himself a solid.

The source added that “so many girls” were surprised none of the leads were people of colour (POC).
“[They] were like, ‘Where are the coloured men? We need a man of colour‘.” Hear, hear!
“They really needed a fourth Bachelor and needed him to be a man of colour.”
Yet again, Channel Ten has fumbled the bag and honestly, we need to do better.
