The Block 2022‘s Sharon Johal has confessed she can relate to the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, following the release of her and Prince Harry‘s docuseries: Harry & Meghan.

The six-part special has grabbed headlines for the controversial couple‘s revelations about their struggle with the British royal family and broader media.

Following the release of its second half on December 15, Blockhead Sharon revealed Meghan’s struggles with racism and stereotyping resonated with her.

The 34-year-old was the first Indian Punjabi in a mainstream media role, having played Dipi Rebecchi on Neighbours from 2017 to 2021.

Chatting with the Herald Sun, she admitted she has lost roles for not appearing “Indian” enough.

“I don’t agree with everything Meghan has said or done, but I also don’t think anyone would wish to go through such turmoil voluntarily or bring it upon themselves,” Sharon said.

“For me, personally unfortunately and on a smaller scale, I have had similar experiences in workplaces and the industry too.”

She continued: “I just want to work in my home country, Australia, free from discrimination and afforded equal opportunities in the field I’ve chosen.”

Sharon Johal previously exposed her ‘painful’ experience on Neighbours set

In 2021, Sharon made headlines after releasing a statement about her “painful” experience on the Neighbours set.

She said she copped abuse and lost work after speaking out against the show for allowing racism and condoning stereotypes.

The actress claimed this included slurs, mocking comments and a colleague labelling her a “c*nt” when she confronted them over an offensive remark.

Freemantle, the company behind Neighbours, launched an investigation into the matter; however, the findings were not made public.

Sharon has since faced criticism en masse in the wake of her “villain” edit on The Block, including vile messages from racist trolls, which she has called out online.
