During Monday night’s episode of Big Brother VIP Australia, Thomas Markle Jr penned an apology letter to his estranged half-sister Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry.
Thomas famously wrote Prince Harry a letter in 2018, pleading with him not to marry Meghan. In the highly publicised note, the 55-year-old called his sister “jaded, shallow and conceited”.
Now, after weeks of promos teasing another bombshell letter, viewers were finally given the chance to see what Thomas had to say.
Why Did Thomas Markle Jr Write Meghan and Prince Harry Another Letter?
In the episode, Luke Toki was tasked with a secret mission to convince Thomas to pen another letter to his Royal relatives. Agreeing to do so, Thomas was grateful to Big Brother for allowing him to rectify “the biggest mistake of [his] life”.
“Dear Meghan and Harry, the first thing I want to say to both of you is that I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart for the awful, mean letter that I wrote to you prior to your wedding,” he said, reading his letter to Big Brother.
He added that he was “immature” and “truly [regretted]” the way he communicated his “feelings in the media”.
Calling himself a “complete ass”, Thomas confessed why he wrote the original letter.
“The letter was definitely written out of me feeling like really hurt and confused when I was informed of your response that I was distant family.
“I am not a mean person at all, and I have more love inside me to give than anything,” he explained.
Emploring Meghan and Harry to accept his apology, Thomas laid it all out on the table.
“This is the real Tom Markle Jr. I truly love you guys and I want you to know that about me.”
Thomas Markle Jr’s Close Bond With Half-Sister Meghan Markle
Before penning his letter, Big Brother asked Thomas what it was like growing up with Meghan.
“It was fun… a lot of love growing up,” he admitted. He also recalled her childhood nickname, “Flower”, which came as a result of the flowers decorating her nursery.
Given Meghan had recently celebrated her 40th birthday, her brother revealed that the celebration would always feel like “Christmas Day for her”.
“The glow on her face, the excitement and the happiness was like Christmas,” Thomas said. He then told Luke: “She is my sister and she’s my blood, and I mean, I love the hell out of her.”
His estranged relationship also struck a nerve with his fellow housemate. Survivor star Luke revealed there was a time where he didn’t speak to his own sister for over two years.
What Did Thomas Markle Jr Write In His Original Letter To Meghan Markle and Prince Harry?
In his original letter in 2018, Thomas claimed Meghan would “make a joke of [Harry] and the Royal family heritage”.
“As more time passes to your Royal wedding, it became very clear that this is the biggest mistake in Royal wedding history,” he wrote.
At the time, he wondered why Harry was unable to see “the real Meghan” — someone he claimed was “[atttempting] to act the part of a princess like a below C average Hollywood actress”. Yikes!
Despite slamming his sister, Thomas finished the letter by noting that “family comes first”.
“Meghan is still my sister. She is family. So, whatever happens, is up to her, whether she wants to forget knowing me or the rest of her family, family comes first.”
