A Love Island Australia 2022 contestant has spoken out about the most bizarre rules producers had for all contestants during filming.

Speaking to So Dramatic! after she was dumped from the villa, Phoebe Han revealed the truth behind the countless restrictions the producers closely enforced in the villa.

How much were Islanders allowed to drink on Love Island Australia 2022?

The 22-year-old Islander first confirmed the rumours about alcohol limits, revealing that they were actually even stricter in Spain than the previous two seasons.

ICYMI: A Nine spokesperson confirmed to So Dramatic! in November that the Islanders are “allowed two units of alcohol per day”. Love Island Australia 2019’s Jessie Wynter also previously confirmed that there were alcohol restrictions while filming.

But Phoebe revealed they were only allowed two drinks for certain events. Most nights, they were restricted to one drink.

“I was there for two weeks. There were only two nights out of the two weeks that we actually got offered the two drinks,” Phoebe said.

She added: “I’m really lightweight, so there was one night out of the two that they actually gave me water for my second drink.”

Referring to a festival-themed party, Phoebe revealed the Islanders looked “hyped up” because they were actually playing music.

“We were like ‘oh my god we get two drinks and we get a little bit of music’,” Phoebe explained.

During most of the hot and heavy party sequences, the Islanders have to dance in complete silence and audio is later added during editing. AWKS!

Some Love Island Australia contestants were “cut off” from the outside world during quarantine

Phoebe was one of many intruders to enter the villa, but she apparently had better timing than many of the later bombs.

She was allowed to use her own phone during the week of quarantine, which all Islanders completed before their filming started.

But Phoebe explained that after Married at First Sight Australia’s Al Perkins second reality TV stint was reported by the media (read: us) amid filming, the producers became a lot stricter to avoid further leaks. Whoops!

Just after Phoebe left quarantine, all of the other bombs had their phones taken from them the week before arriving in the villa.

“They took the phones off for the remainder of bombshells straight after they got off their plane,” Phoebe said.

No wonder Mitch Hibberd and Tina Provis had no clue they were both returning!

The Love Island Australia contestants weren’t allowed to know the time

Following in the somewhat shady footsteps of most casinos, the Love Island Australia producers wouldn’t let any of the Islanders know the time of day.

In fact, they went so far as to falsify the time on their Love Island-approved phones. Each of the contestants‘ mobiles had a different time listed and they weren’t able to change it.

“There’s like nothing on [the phones]. Everyone has like a different time on it and there wasn’t even anything on them. All we had was like a camera, a gallery and then like the text that we get from like production,” Phoebe explained.

Phoebe even recalled that at one point, Maddy Gillbanks had noticed their air-conditioning unit showed the accurate time.

Once the Love Island Australia producers realised this bizarre rule had been accidentally broken, they covered the aircon clock with gaffer tape.

The Islanders are often faced with extremely long days of filming, so producers likely didn’t want them to be aware of how long they’ve been waiting around for.

With daylight hours in Spain reaching to around 9 pm in May, the contestants would have to film late into the night to get the dramatic nighttime firepit or party scenes.

Being on Love Island is harder than it looks!
