The Challenge Australia 2022‘s Brittany Hockley has confessed she had a mixed response from fans after it was revealed she has joined radio’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show for the remainder of 2023.
During the November 14 broadcast, longtime host Jackie O Henderson said she’d be stepping down for several weeks in order to recover from lingering COVID-19 symptoms.
As such, Brittany (who hosts the Life Uncut podcast with Laura Byrne) will be taking over her role for the time being.
However, the new gig has proven to be extremely polarising according to the ex-Bachelor star.
During the November 15 broadcast of The Kyle and Jackie O Show, the 35-year-old told Kyle Sandilands that while some fans said they loved the controversial show, others gave a strong opinion on why it was the wrong move.
When questioned by the shock jock as to what the naysayers expressed, Brittany remained tight-lipped: “That’s all they said.”
“That’s how you know you’ve made it,” she added before saying that Kyle was a “big teddy”.
Even though the reality star wasn’t keen on sharing listeners’ adverse reactions, fans weren’t shy about dishing out their thoughts online.
What Did Fans Say About Brittany Hockley Joining The Kyle and Jackie O Show?
Taking to the Life Uncut podcast group on Facebook, one fan congratulated Brittany on the new gig. However, their peers quickly noted the “toxic” personality she aligned herself with.
“I agree with the others who have said that it’s a great opportunity for Britt,” someone penned.
“What I can’t reconcile is that [Kyle’s] public persona is so influential and toxic and creates so much harm and hurt for clickbait, which lines his pocket quite nicely.
“This doesn’t sit well with me unfortunately.”
Another penned: “Oh wow, good on her, but I’m not sure I would want to work with him.”
One Life Uncut fan said she found Brittany’s new role “really gross”.
“Kyle slut shames, body shames… men talk about not getting enough head jobs, and she just laughed along,” they wrote. “It’s so gross and degrading.
“Not just towards Britt, but women in general. I know he’s a big deal, but I’m disappointed.”
Fans on Instagram shared similar sentiments on the newly minted breakfast radio host’s page.
“I totally get that it’s an amazing opportunity and career move (I’m Britts [sic] biggest cheerleader and a Life Uncut OG),” they noted. “But Kyle is an incredibly damaging individual, and this move doesn’t necessarily align with all the positive work Life Uncut does.
“All the best though and still proud of you!”
The comments came after The Challenge contender’s debut broadcast, during which Kyle told her she was “undateable”.
“At a glance you’d assume you’re taken,” the 51-year-old said. “You scream you should be taken. Good looking, tall, athletic, why wouldn’t you be taken?”
As Brittany laughed, he continued: “So something is really wrong with you, and we’re going to find it out what. Maybe she’s a punish, maybe she’s a bad root. You might be a dud, and you don’t know”.
